Connect your Shopify shop to SitesPlaced (early access)

The Shopify connector is in early access and not open to every account yet. What it will do, why past orders stop at 60 days, what protected customer data means, and how to ask for access.

Early access: not open to every account yet

The Shopify connector is built, but it is not switched on for everyone. You cannot install it yourself today. This page explains what it does so you can decide whether to ask for access. If you sell on WooCommerce, that plugin is available now: see Connect your WooCommerce shop.

The idea is the same as for WooCommerce. You keep your Shopify shop exactly as it is. The connector copies its orders into SitesPlaced, so you can use the SitesPlaced order dashboard, the mobile app, courier booking, WhatsApp order messages, a tracking page for your customers and the AI Co-founder on those orders. Shopify stays in charge of payment, stock and cancellation. SitesPlaced sends back only fulfilment and tracking.

What is live today, and what is not

  • Live today: the SitesPlaced Developer API and the WooCommerce plugin.
  • Not live for everyone: the Shopify connector. It needs two things from Shopify's side before it can open up: the app's credentials, and Shopify's approval to read customer details (explained below).
  • Not planned in this version: a listing in the Shopify App Store, and two-way stock sync.
  • We are not giving a date. We will not name one until we can keep it.

What the connector will do

  • Copy orders in as they are placed and each time they change, including cancellations and refunds. Shopify test orders are skipped.
  • Copy your product list so the AI Co-founder can use your real product photos. Copied products are kept apart from SitesPlaced products and can never be sold on a SitesPlaced storefront.
  • Send fulfilment and tracking back. When you ship an order in SitesPlaced, the connector marks it fulfilled on Shopify and adds the tracking number, the courier and the link. An order that is already fulfilled gets its tracking updated instead of a second fulfilment. An order with nothing to ship is skipped.
  • Give your customers a tracking page, the same one described in the WooCommerce guide: order number plus a second detail, and never a name, phone number, email or address on the page.
  • Leave everything else alone. The connector does not change your Shopify checkout, your payments or your stock. Cancel and refund on Shopify; the copy in SitesPlaced follows.

Why past orders stop at 60 days

When a shop connects, the connector brings in up to 60 days of past orders, without sending any notifications for them. The limit is Shopify's own rule, not ours: an app can read only the last 60 days of a shop's orders unless Shopify grants that app wider access. Every order placed after you connect is copied, with no time limit.

What “protected customer data” means

Protected customer data is Shopify's name for a shopper's personal details: their name, address, phone number and email. Shopify does not hand these to an app by default. The app has to explain why it needs them and be approved first.

SitesPlaced needs those details for ordinary reasons: to show you who placed the order, to book a courier to the right address, to send WhatsApp order messages, and to run the phone or email check on the tracking page. Waiting for that approval is one of the reasons the connector is still in early access.

If an order ever arrives without those details, it is stored under the name “Customer”. WhatsApp messages and the second-detail check simply do not apply to the missing field.

What happens to the data if you leave

  • If you remove the app from your Shopify admin, the connection is closed and SitesPlaced deletes its access to your shop at once.
  • When Shopify sends a request to erase a shopper's data, that shopper's details on the copied orders are anonymised.

What it will cost

The same as any connected shop. One connected shop is free, with order sync and a tracking page that carries the SitesPlaced badge. A paid store plan (Growth or AI Co-founder) allows five connected shops, removes the badge and includes WhatsApp order messages. See pricing. Your Shopify plan and its charges are separate and stay as they are.

How to ask for access

  1. 1Open the contact page.
  2. 2Tell us your shop's address and roughly how many orders you ship in a month.
  3. 3We will write back when your shop can connect. There is nothing to install until then.

For developers, the technical notes are on the Shopify connector page.

Can I connect my Shopify shop today?

Not unless we have opened early access for your shop. The connector is built but not switched on for everyone. Ask from the contact page.

When will it be open to everyone?

We are not giving a date. It depends on app credentials and on Shopify's approval to read customer details, and we will not name a date until we can keep it.

Is it in the Shopify App Store?

No. It is not listed there.

Will it change my Shopify checkout, payments or stock?

No. Shopify stays in charge of all three. SitesPlaced sends back only fulfilment and tracking.

I only want my Shopify products in a SitesPlaced store, not my orders.

That is a different tool and it is available now. The store importer reads a Shopify shop's public pages and builds a SitesPlaced store from them. See Import your existing store.
