Shippo is how you print shipping labels for orders outside India. It compares USPS, UPS, FedEx, DHL, Royal Mail and others, and you buy the label straight from the order. It costs about 5¢ per label on top of the postage, with no monthly fee — which is why we picked it over the alternatives that charge $19–$75 a month before you've shipped anything.
Shipping within India?
Use Shiprocket or Shipmozo instead — they're built for Indian couriers and COD. Shippo is for US, UK and international parcels.
Connect your account
- 1Create a free account at goshippo.com if you don't have one, and add a payment method — you pay carriers directly for postage.
- 2Open Settings → API in Shippo.
- 3Copy your Live token. It starts with
shippo_live_. (Ashippo_test_token makes sample labels no carrier will accept — fine for a trial run, not for real parcels.) - 4In your store dashboard, open Settings → Integrations, paste it into the Shippo card and click Connect Shippo.
- 5Fill in your sender address and save it. Every label needs a return address, and this is where undelivered parcels come back to.
Buying a label
Open an order and use the Shippo action. We create the shipment from the customer's delivery address, pick the cheapest available rate, buy the label, and save the tracking number and label PDF onto the order. The customer's Track Order page then shows the tracking number automatically.
Parcel size and weight
If you haven't entered dimensions on the order, we use a sensible default (roughly a small box, 1lb). That's enough to get a rate, but check it before you hand the parcel over — carriers charge the difference if the real parcel is heavier.
Safety
- Your token is encrypted before storage and never appears on your website.
- It can buy labels on your Shippo account — that is what it's for — so treat it like a card. Disconnect here, or delete the token in Shippo, and it stops working immediately.
- Postage is charged by Shippo to your own payment method. We never bill you for shipping.
Common questions
It says no shipping options were found.
Usually the delivery address is incomplete or the country isn't served by any carrier you've enabled. Check the address on the order, and check which carriers are switched on in your Shippo account.
Can I choose the carrier instead of the cheapest?
Not yet — we buy the cheapest available rate. If you need a specific carrier or service, create that label inside Shippo directly for now.
Can I use this for digital products?
No, and you don't need to. Orders that only contain downloads never reach shipping at all — the files are emailed the moment payment succeeds.
Does it work for Indian addresses?
Shippo's coverage is strongest in the US, UK, Canada, Australia and the EU. For India, use Shiprocket or Shipmozo.
