Collect emails on every page of your store

Switch on a small email signup box that sits above the footer on every page of your store, whatever template you use. Every email lands in your Subscribers tab.

What it is

The email signup strip is one row that sits just above the footer on every page of your store: a heading, one line of text, an email box and a button. It takes your store's colours and font, so it looks like part of whichever template you use. A shopper types their email, presses the button, reads your thank-you line, and their email appears in your Subscribers tab.

Some templates come with a newsletter section you can place on the home page from the Design tab. Many do not, and until now a store on one of those had no way to collect an email at all. The strip works on every template, on every page, so it does not matter which one you chose.

On every plan

The strip is free. Your customer list is yours, and building it should never cost extra.

Switch it on

  1. 1Open your store dashboard and go to Settings.
  2. 2Open the Email list section, or type “email” into the Search settings… box at the top.
  3. 3Tick Show the email signup strip on my store. The boxes for the wording appear.
  4. 4Write your Heading (up to 80 characters) and one line of Text (up to 200). If you leave them empty the strip reads “Join the list” and “New drops, restocks and offers, straight to your inbox.”
  5. 5Change the Button text (“Subscribe”) and the line shoppers read after they sign up if you like.
  6. 6Press Save in the bar at the bottom of the page.

The strip reaches your home, products and cart pages within a few minutes. Individual product pages are stored for speed and can take up to an hour to show it.

Where it shows and what it looks like

  • Every page. Home, the products page, every product, every category, the cart, your About and Contact pages, your policies. It sits directly above the footer.
  • In your colours. The strip uses the background, text and accent colour of your template and the brand colour and font you set under Settings → Branding. There is nothing to style.
  • On phones. The heading and text sit above the email box, and the box and button stack, so it is easy to fill in with a thumb.
  • After signing up. The box is replaced by your thank-you line. Nothing pops up and nothing moves.

What to write

Say plainly what an email gets them, in one line. Shoppers give their email for something specific, not for “updates”.

  • A clothing store: heading “First to know”, text “New drops and restocks, before they go on Instagram.”
  • A food store: heading “Fresh batch alerts”, text “We bake in small batches. Get a note the morning a batch is ready.”
  • A store that runs offers: heading “Members save more”, text “One email a month with an offer that is not on the site.”

Do not promise a discount here unless you really run one — a shopper who signs up for “10% off” and never gets a code will not trust the next email you send.

The emails you collect

Every email goes to your Subscribers tab, alongside emails from a newsletter section on your home page and from the opening-soon page if you ever close the store. Each one is marked with where it came from. From that tab you can export the whole list as a file for any email tool, or email everyone on it. Emails are checked for a real format before they are saved, one address is only saved once, and a hidden check keeps most bots out of your list.

Switch it off

Go back to Settings → Email list, untick the box and press Save. The strip disappears from every page. Your wording is kept, and the emails you already collected stay in your Subscribers tab.

My template already has a newsletter section. Do I need this?

Not necessarily. A newsletter section on your home page is only on your home page; the strip is on every page. Many stores use both. If you switch the strip on and keep the section, a shopper on the home page sees two email boxes — usually fine, but you can remove the section from the Design tab if you would rather have one.

Can I put it somewhere other than above the footer?

No. It has one place, so it is the same on every template. For a signup box inside your home page, use your template's newsletter section from the Design tab, if it has one.

Does SitesPlaced email my subscribers?

No. Nobody emails your list but you. Export it or use the email tools in your dashboard.

A shopper says they signed up and nothing happened.

Check the Subscribers tab — if their email is there, it worked, and the only thing they saw was your thank-you line. Nothing is emailed to them automatically when they sign up.
