SEO & social sharing
Set how your store shows up on Google and the preview image when your link is shared on WhatsApp or Instagram.

Open Settings → SEO & sharing (or search *seo* in Settings) to control how your store appears on Google and what people see when its link is pasted into WhatsApp, Instagram or Facebook. Three fields do most of the work — a title, a short description and a share image — and a live Preview box shows the result as you type. Product pages have their own meta description in the product form, and your blog gives Google more pages to find. All of this is on the free plan; what a paid plan (Starter or Growth) changes is the *"| sitesplaced"* suffix on your titles, which disappears with branding removal.
Set your store's title, description & share image
- 1Open Settings → SEO & sharing.
- 2Fill in Name shown on Google — your store's page title in search results and the browser tab. Leave it blank and your store name followed by *| Shop* is used (the placeholder shows it). A good pattern is *Brand | What you sell*, e.g. *Naari | Handmade Silver Jewellery*.
- 3Write a Short description — the line under your title in search results and social previews. One or two sentences saying what you sell and for whom. If you leave it blank, your hero subheadline is used.
- 4Upload the Photo shown when your link is shared (1200×630 recommended). This is the image people see when the store link is posted on WhatsApp, Instagram or Facebook. If you leave it blank, your hero image is used. Under 2MB.
- 5Check the Preview box that appears once any field is filled — it mimics the share card. Then click Save.
A clear title, a one-line description, and a good share image make your link far more clickable when customers forward it. Set these before you start sharing widely — messaging apps can keep showing an old preview for a while after you change the image.
Product pages
Each product page gets its own title — *Product name | Store name* — automatically. Open a product and expand the Search & SEO card to write a Meta description for it; the counter shows how much of the 160-character limit you have used. If you leave it blank, the first 160 characters of the product description are used. The product's first photo is its share image. In the Photos card you can also fill in Image alt text per photo, which describes the image to search engines and screen readers — e.g. *"Oxidised silver jhumka earrings with pearl drop"*.
Your address on Google
Your published store is indexed at yourname.sitesplaced.com. Once you connect and verify a custom domain, that domain becomes the canonical address and Google is told to prefer it. The .site preview link that Open Store opens is deliberately kept out of search results, so share the .com address or your own domain. Cart and order-tracking pages are excluded from search automatically; everything else — home, products, about, contact, blog and policies — is open to crawlers.
Good to know
- Write for the query. People search *"handmade jute bags Jaipur"*, not *"welcome to our store"*. Put the product type and your city or niche in the title and description.
- Blog posts rank. A guide like *"How to care for silver jewellery"* brings visitors who later buy. See Add a blog to your store.
- Policies help trust signals. A live returns and privacy policy (Pages & policies) makes both shoppers and search engines treat the store as a real business.
- Measure it. The Analytics tab (Starter or Growth) shows visits and orders; Settings → Tracking & code (Starter or Growth) lets you paste Google Analytics, Clarity or any other tag. Meta Pixel + Conversions API has its own card there — see Meta Pixel + CAPI.
- Be patient. A new store usually takes days to weeks to appear in results. Sharing the link on Instagram and WhatsApp brings customers immediately; SEO compounds over months.
Why does my title end with "| sitesplaced"?
That suffix is part of the free plan's branding, like the footer badge. It is removed with the branding removal on Starter or Growth. The share-card title never carries the suffix.
I changed the share image but WhatsApp still shows the old one.
Messaging apps cache link previews. Your store already serves the new image; the app will pick it up over time. Sending the link to yourself in a fresh chat sometimes refreshes it.
Can I set a different title per page?
Product pages are titled automatically as Product name | Store name and take a per-product meta description. Blog posts use the post title. The home page uses the Name shown on Google field; other pages are titled like About | Store name.
Does the free .site preview link hurt my SEO?
No. The preview address is marked not to be indexed, so it never competes with your real store address. Share the .com link or your custom domain with customers.
