Your free sitesplaced.com address

Every published site and store gets a free yourname.sitesplaced.com address — and you choose the yourname part.

Last updated 23 August 2026

When you publish, your site goes live straight away on a free address that looks like yourname.sitesplaced.com. You don't have to buy anything — it works on phones, it's secured with HTTPS, and you can share it anywhere: your Instagram bio, a WhatsApp status, a printed flyer or a QR code on your packaging.

The yourname part is called your slug, and you get to pick it. You choose it when you create the site (the Slug box in the create wizard, next to .sitesplaced.site), and you can change it later from settings.

Two addresses, one site

Your dashboard's share buttons and QR code use yourname.sitesplaced.site, and the same site also answers at yourname.sitesplaced.com. Both open the same pages and both stay live. Search engines are pointed at the .com version (or at your custom domain once you connect one), so share whichever link you like.

Set or change your address

For a store

  1. 1From your dashboard, open your store, then Settings → Store details.
  2. 2Find the Store link field — this is the yourname part of yourname.sitesplaced.com. The hint under it reads *The web address customers visit. Changing it changes your store's URL.*
  3. 3Type the address you'd like (use letters, numbers and hyphens — no spaces).
  4. 4A bar appears saying *You have unsaved changes*. Click Save. You'll see *Settings saved* and your store is now reachable at the new address.

For a website or portfolio

  1. 1Open the site in the builder and scroll the editing panel to General Settings.
  2. 2Edit the Slug field (you'll see .sitesplaced.site printed next to it).
  3. 3The builder autosaves a couple of seconds after you stop typing — the status changes from *Unsaved* to *Saving…*. You can also click Save at the top.

Slug rules

A slug becomes part of a web address, so it has to follow a few rules. SitesPlaced tidies it for you as far as it can, and tells you when it can't (the length and reserved-word checks run when you create a site and in the website builder; the store Store link field only tidies and checks uniqueness):

  • Lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens only. Capitals become lowercase; spaces and other characters are turned into hyphens, and repeated hyphens are collapsed into one. My Shop! becomes my-shop.
  • Between 2 and 63 characters, starting and ending with a letter or number — that's the limit for a subdomain.
  • Unique across SitesPlaced. If someone already has it you'll see *Slug is already taken*. Try adding your city or product type, e.g. meera-sarees-jaipur.
  • Not a reserved system word. Things like admin, api, blog, shop or help are kept back and you'll be asked to choose a different one.

Keep your slug short and easy to say out loud — you'll be reading it over the phone and putting it in your Instagram bio. Your brand name is usually the best choice.

Changing your slug changes your link

If you've already shared yourname.sitesplaced.com and then change the slug, the old link stops working — visitors who open it are sent to the SitesPlaced home page, not to your store. Update it everywhere you've posted it.

Good to know

  • Print later, not sooner. If you plan to put a QR code on packaging or visiting cards, settle on your slug first — or connect a custom domain, which you control for good. The QR code on your store's Home tab always points at your current primary link.
  • The free address stays after you connect a domain. Connecting yourbrand.com doesn't switch off yourname.sitesplaced.com; it just becomes the address your share links and QR code use. See Connect your own domain.
  • Branding badge. On the free plan your site shows a small SitesPlaced badge. Removing it is a paid feature, separate from the address — see Free vs premium store.
  • Unpublished sites aren't reachable. The address only works while the site is published. If visitors report a blank page, check the publish status first — Publishing and sharing.
  • Other store details live in the same place. Your store name, WhatsApp number and currency sit next to the Store link field — see Store details, WhatsApp & currency.

Want your own domain instead?

A free sitesplaced.com address is perfect to start. When you're ready for something like yourbrand.com, you can connect a custom domain on a paid plan — see Connect your own domain, and the pricing page for what each plan includes.

Is the free address really free forever?

Yes. yourname.sitesplaced.com comes with every plan, including the free one, for as long as your site is published. You never pay for it.

Can I change my slug after I've published?

Yes, as often as you like, from Settings → Store details → Store link (stores) or General Settings → Slug (websites). Just remember the old link stops working, so re-share the new one.

Why does my dashboard show .sitesplaced.site when this article says .sitesplaced.com?

They are two addresses for the same site. The dashboard's share links and QR code use the .site one; .com works too and is the one search engines index. Either is fine to share.

Someone already has the slug I want. Can I get it?

Slugs are first come, first served and can't be reassigned. Pick a variation — add your city, product or a short suffix — or connect your own domain, where the name is entirely yours.

Can I have a slug with a dot or an underscore?

No. Only lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens are allowed; anything else is converted to a hyphen when you save.
