Team members, and handing a site to another account

Invite people to work on a website or store with you, see who can open it and why, remove someone, or move the whole site to another person's account.

What it is

A site on SitesPlaced has one owner: the account it was created on. Team & ownership lets the owner do two things. They can invite team members, who then work on the same website or store from their own accounts. And they can hand the site over, which moves it to another person's account and makes that person the owner.

You will find it on your Dashboard (the people icon on a site's card), in a store under Settings → Team & ownership, in the website builder under Settings, and on a gym's console under Team.

Starter and Growth

Team members and transfers are part of the Starter and Growth plans (and AI Co-founder, which includes Growth). The owner needs one of these plans to share a site, and every team member needs one on their own account to open it. See what each plan includes.

Who can open a shared site

A team member can open a site only while all three of these are true. They are checked every time the site is opened, not once.

  • They accepted the invitation to that site.
  • The owner is on the Starter or Growth plan.
  • They themselves are on the Starter or Growth plan.

So on a team of five where four people have a paid plan and one does not, the four can open the site and the fifth cannot. The fifth person keeps their seat: the site opens for them the moment they subscribe, and nobody has to invite them again.

When a plan ends

  • A team member's plan ends. That person loses access on the date their paid time runs out. Everyone else is not affected. When they subscribe again, access comes back.
  • The owner's plan ends. The whole team loses access until the owner is on a paid plan again. The owner can still open their own site, as always, and every seat is kept.
  • A plan that renews by itself. If a renewal payment is a little late, access continues for a few days while the payment is collected, the same way every other paid feature behaves.
  • A cancelled plan. Cancelling stops the next payment. Access continues until the end of the time already paid for, and stops on that date.
  • A refund. The plan ends at once, so access ends at once.

The Team & ownership page shows the state of every person: Can open the site, Plan ends on (date), No paid plan, cannot open the site, or Invited, not accepted yet. It also warns the owner when their own plan is about to end.

Invite a team member

  1. 1Open Team & ownership for the site.
  2. 2Under Invite someone, type the person's email address and click Send invite.
  3. 3We email them a link. The same link is shown to you with a Copy link button, so you can also send it on WhatsApp.
  4. 4They open the link, sign in (or create a free account) with that same email address, and click Accept the invitation.
  5. 5The site then appears on their Dashboard under Shared with you.

The link only works for the invited address

An invitation is tied to the email address you typed. If the link is forwarded to someone else, they cannot use it. If your team member signs in with a different address, the page tells them which address to use.

A site can have up to 10 team members, counting invitations that have not been accepted yet. To free a seat, remove someone or cancel an invitation.

What a team member can and cannot do

A team member can do the day-to-day work on the site:

  • Edit pages, sections, design and text, and publish or unpublish.
  • On a store: add and edit products, handle orders and shipping, reply to reviews, write blog posts, run discounts, loyalty and the other store settings.
  • Upload images to the site's library.

These stay with the owner only:

  • The domain and the site address.
  • Payment gateways, couriers and other connected accounts, and the UPI or bank details customers are told to pay to.
  • Custom code and tracking code, because it runs on every page.
  • API keys and webhooks.
  • Deleting the site, managing the team, and handing the site over.
  • Billing. Each person manages their own plan.

The site's paid features (your own domain, no badge, sales boosters and so on) follow the owner's plan. A team member on a different plan sees the site exactly as the owner's plan makes it.

Limits belong to the site too. Images a team member uploads count towards the site's storage, and AI tools a team member runs on a shared store use the owner's AI credits.

On the web for now

Shared sites open in the web dashboard. The Android app, the ChatGPT and Claude connector, and the AI agents' chat still work only for the owner of a site.

Remove someone, or leave a team

  • Owner: on Team & ownership, click Remove next to the person (or Cancel next to an invitation). They lose access straight away.
  • Team member: on your Dashboard, find the site under Shared with you and use the leave button on its card, or open Team & ownership and click Leave.

Removing and leaving never need a paid plan. An owner whose plan has ended can still remove people, and a team member who cannot open a site can still leave it.

Hand a site to another account

Use this when the site should belong to someone else: you built it for a client, you sold the business, or you want it on a different account of your own.

  1. 1Open Team & ownership and go to Hand this site to another account.
  2. 2Type the new owner's email address. Tick Keep me on the site as a team member afterwards if you will keep looking after it.
  3. 3Click Send the request and confirm. We email the new owner, and you get a link you can send them yourself.
  4. 4The new owner opens the link, signs in with that email address, reads what will move, and clicks Accept and become the owner.
  5. 5The site moves to their account at that moment.

What moves, and what does not

  • Moves with the site: its pages and design, products, orders and customers, images and files, its address, its connected domain, and a celebration site's one-time unlock.
  • Stays connected: payment gateways and couriers. If any of them are on your own account, disconnect them before you send the request, or ask the new owner to replace them in Settings → Integrations.
  • Stays with you: your plan, your other sites, your AI credits and your chats with the AI agents.
  • The team: people already on the team keep their seats. The new owner can remove them.

Both accounts need a paid plan

The new owner must be on the Starter or Growth plan to accept, and you must still be on one when they do. After the transfer the site's paid features follow the new owner's plan. If they are on Starter and the store used Growth features, those features switch off until they upgrade; the settings are kept.

Nothing moves until the new owner accepts. They have 7 days; after that the request lapses and you can send a new one. You can cancel the request at any time before it is accepted. A site can have one open request at a time.

Does a team member have to pay?

Yes. Every person on a team needs the Starter or Growth plan on their own account to open a shared site. Someone without a plan keeps their seat but cannot open the site until they subscribe.

One of my team members stopped paying. What happens to the others?

Nothing. Only the person whose plan ended loses access. Everyone else carries on as before.

My own plan ended. Did I lose my team?

No. Your team cannot open the site while you are off a paid plan, but every seat is kept. Access comes back for them as soon as you are on a paid plan again.

Can a team member change where payments go?

No. Payment gateways, couriers, the UPI and bank details shown to customers, custom code, the domain and API keys can only be changed by the owner.

I sent the invitation to the wrong email address. What now?

Cancel it on the Team & ownership page and send a new one. The old link stops working as soon as you cancel.

Can I undo a transfer?

Before it is accepted, yes: cancel the request. After it is accepted the site belongs to the new owner, and only they can hand it back, by sending a transfer request to you.

Does the person I hand a site to get my plan as well?

No. A plan belongs to an account, not to a site. Your plan stays with you, and the site's paid features follow the new owner's plan.
