Order alerts and confirmations from your own WhatsApp number.

Every order sends you a WhatsApp alert and the customer a confirmation with items, total, payment and a tracking link — through Meta's Cloud API on your WhatsApp Business account, not a shared number.

The WhatsApp Business API integration is part of the ₹499/month Ecommerce plan and is bring-your-own-credentials: you create a Meta app with WhatsApp, paste the Phone number ID, WhatsApp Business Account ID and a permanent system-user token under Settings → Integrations → WhatsApp Business (Cloud API), and SitesPlaced creates two utility message templates on your account. From then on each order sends a new-order alert to you and an order confirmation to the customer from your own number. Meta bills the messages to your WhatsApp account; SitesPlaced adds nothing per message.

What WhatsApp Business API does on a SitesPlaced store

Two messages per order, your number

A new-order alert to you (order ID, customer, phone, items, total, payment, dashboard link) and a confirmation to the customer (items, total, payment method, Track Order link), both sent from the WhatsApp Business number you connect.

Templates created for you

Business-initiated WhatsApp messages must be approved templates. On connect SitesPlaced creates two UTILITY templates on your account — an order confirmation and a new-order alert — and Meta reviews them automatically (usually quickly, up to 24 hours).

Toggles, test send and retries

Switch owner alerts and customer confirmations on or off separately, send a test message to your own number, and let the outbox retry failed sends automatically.

Delivery receipts (optional)

Paste the callback URL and verify token from the card into your Meta app's webhook settings to see sent / delivered / read status per message in the dashboard.

Which plan, and what it costs

  • SitesPlaced: ₹499/month Ecommerce plan (early-bird price for the first 30 stores; ₹999/month after), which also includes a custom domain, branding removal, AI copy and store analytics.
  • Third-party fees: Meta bills conversation charges to your WhatsApp Business account (utility messages in India cost a fraction of a rupee each, per Meta's rate card at the time of writing; the test number is free). SitesPlaced adds no per-message fee.

On Shopify, WhatsApp order notifications are usually a paid third-party app on top of the plan; on SitesPlaced they are part of the ₹499/month plan from your own number.

Full plan details are on the pricing page. Plan tags on every SitesPlaced page mirror the real entitlement gate in the product, as of August 23, 2026.

How to set up WhatsApp Business API

Where: Dashboard → your store → Settings → Integrations → WhatsApp Business (Cloud API). Takes: about 15 minutes, one time.

  1. Create a Meta app with WhatsApp

At developers.facebook.com/apps click Create app and choose “Connect with customers through WhatsApp”. Finish the wizard; you land on WhatsApp → API Setup.

  2. Copy the two IDs

On API Setup, under Step 1 (Select phone numbers), Meta prints the Phone number ID and the WhatsApp Business Account ID right below the From dropdown. Use the free test number to try it, or Add phone number for your real one.

  3. Make a permanent token

Business Settings → System users → Add (Admin) → Assign assets: your app (Manage app) and your WhatsApp account (full control) → Generate new token with expiration Never and the whatsapp_business_messaging and whatsapp_business_management permissions. Copy the EAA… token — Meta shows it once. Skip the 24-hour temporary token.

  4. Paste into SitesPlaced and connect

Settings → Integrations → WhatsApp Business (Cloud API) → Phone number ID, WhatsApp Business Account ID, Permanent access token (App secret optional) → Connect. SitesPlaced verifies by reading your number, stores the token encrypted and creates the two templates.

  5. Wait for template approval, then test

The card shows each template's review status. Once approved, click Send test message to receive the new-order alert with sample values on your number, then leave Owner alerts and Customer confirmations on.

Good to know

  • Sends are queued in an outbox and retried on a schedule, so a brief Meta outage never blocks a checkout.
  • Template wording is fixed and versioned (sp_order_confirmation_v1, sp_new_order_alert_v1); a wording change is a new template that goes through Meta's review before it replaces the old one.
  • Meta's Embedded Signup (one-click connect) is not available yet; the manual credential flow above is the supported path today.
  • This is separate from WhatsApp checkout, which is a free wa.me order link and needs no Meta setup.

Frequently asked questions

Is this included in the free plan?

No. WhatsApp Business API alerts are on the ₹499/month Ecommerce plan (bring your own Meta credentials). WhatsApp checkout — the wa.me order link — is free.

Do messages come from my number or a SitesPlaced number?

From the WhatsApp Business number on the Meta app you connect. SitesPlaced never sends from a shared number.

What does Meta charge?

Meta bills utility conversations to your WhatsApp Business account; in India these cost a fraction of a rupee per message at the time of writing. Check Meta's current rate card — it changes. The test number Meta gives you is free.

Can I change the message text?

Not per store today. The two templates are fixed so they stay approved; the values (customer name, order ID, items, total, payment, tracking link) are filled from each order.

What if a send fails?

It goes to an outbox and is retried on a schedule. The card lists recent messages with their status and any Meta error so you can see what happened.
