Why Indian sellers choose SitesPlaced over Dukaan

Both are Indian store builders made for sellers on a phone. The defining difference is simple: Dukaan takes a per-order service fee on every sale; SitesPlaced takes 0%. Here are the real reasons sellers switch — and the honest case for when Dukaan still fits.

Choose SitesPlaced over Dukaan if you want to keep 100% of your revenue and own a real branded storefront. Dukaan charges a per-order service fee — about 4.99% on the free plan, down to 0.99% on its top tier (capped ₹200 per order) — on top of your gateway. SitesPlaced charges 0% commission and no service fee: free to build and publish, ₹499/month only for your own domain, badge removal and AI, with done-for-you migration and more design control.

Dukaan is fast to start — here's the catch

Dukaan (mydukaan.io) became popular for letting Indian sellers spin up a mobile-first store in minutes, with UPI, COD and built-in logistics. For a brand-new seller wanting something live today, it does that well — and its ease-of-use ratings reflect it.

The catch arrived in October 2023, when Dukaan introduced a per-order “service fee” across all tiers — roughly 4.99% on the free plan down to 0.99% on the top plan, capped at ₹200 per order — charged on top of the payment gateway. Because the platform had earlier leaned on low or no processing fees, the change drew real backlash. The fee is still in place, and it's the single biggest reason sellers move to a 0%-commission alternative.

4 reasons to choose SitesPlaced over Dukaan

1. 0% vs a cut of every order

Dukaan's per-order service fee (up to 4.99%, capped ₹200) is charged on top of your gateway. SitesPlaced takes 0% — the more you sell, the more that gap matters.

2. Own your storefront and data

On SitesPlaced your shop lives on your own domain and looks like your brand, and your data is exportable. Your customers and catalogue are yours.

3. More design freedom

SitesPlaced gives you 14 vertical-fit templates with section-block editing. Dukaan's design is more locked down — reviewers note no custom HTML or CSS.

4. A real person, not a bot

SitesPlaced sets your store up and migrates your products for you, with human support — useful when an order, payout or domain needs sorting.

Frequently asked questions

Why should I choose SitesPlaced over Dukaan?

The headline reason is fees. Since October 2023 Dukaan charges a per-order service fee on every order — about 4.99% on the free plan down to 0.99% on its top tier (capped ₹200), on top of your gateway. SitesPlaced charges 0% commission and no service fee, so you keep everything except your gateway's normal MDR. You also get your own branded storefront on your own domain, more design freedom, and a real person to set it up — instead of a more locked-down theme and AI-first support.

Does Dukaan charge a commission or service fee?

Yes — a per-order service fee, introduced in October 2023, on every successful order: roughly 4.99% on the free plan down to 0.99% on the top tier, each capped at ₹200 per order, charged on top of your payment gateway. A seller on a lower tier can lose close to 6% of an order's value once gateway charges are included. SitesPlaced charges 0%.

How much does the Dukaan service fee actually add up to?

It scales with your sales. As an example, on 1,000 orders a year averaging ₹800, Dukaan's 3.99% Starter service fee is about ₹31.9 per order, or roughly ₹31,900 a year in service fees alone — before gateway charges. On SitesPlaced that figure is ₹0. Your numbers will vary with order value and plan, and the ₹200 per-order cap means very large orders are charged less in percentage terms.

Can I move my Dukaan store to SitesPlaced?

Yes, and it's free and done for you. Our team recreates your products — names, descriptions, photos, variants and prices — connects Razorpay, COD, WhatsApp and Shiprocket, and points your custom domain across. Most sellers are live within a day, keeping 100% of revenue from their first order on the new store.

When is Dukaan still the better choice?

Dukaan is a fair pick if you want the fastest mobile-app-first setup, like having logistics (Dukaan Delivery) built into the same app, and are comfortable trading a per-order service fee and limited design control for that speed. SitesPlaced is the better fit if you want to keep 100% of revenue, have more design freedom and your own branded storefront, and have a real person set it up.
