Boutique business name ideas: 100 names for ethnic, kids’, western and men’s wear

A good boutique name tells a buyer what kind of clothes to expect, is easy to type into Instagram, and fits on a woven label the size of your thumb. Below are 100 names grouped by style and by what you sell, with the meaning of every Hindi word, and the checks to run before you order labels.

Two things to know first. We have not checked any of these 100 names against Instagram, domain sellers or the trade mark register; someone may already be using one, and the single common words (unlined, sutra, oxford) probably are. Treat the list as a starting point. And be careful with craft words: “chikankari”, “ajrakh”, “handloom” and “couture” set an expectation. Use them only if they are true of what you sell.

TL;DR

  • • 100 ideas in ten groups: classic, modern, Hindi and regional, ethnic wear, kids’ wear, western, men’s, playful, premium and descriptive.
  • • Best pattern: a sewing or fabric word (hem, pleat, dhaaga) plus a word for the place (house, studio, lane).
  • • Check five places: Instagram, the domain, Google, the trade mark search, and your store link.
  • • Avoid: craft claims that aren’t true, anything close to a known label, and a festival in the name.
  • • Then claim it the same day: the handle, the WhatsApp Business name and a free store link.

How to use this list

Most names here are two halves: a sewing or fabric word (hem, pleat, dhaaga, resham) and a word for the place or the maker (house, studio, lane, atelier). Take a name as it is or swap the halves: “Resham Lane”, “Pleat Studio”. Your own name is the one half nobody else can use.

The Hindi, Punjabi, Malayalam and Kutchi words come with their meaning so you can judge the fit. If your buyers speak another language, use the same pattern with a word from theirs. A name they already understand needs no explaining in the bio.

Five questions before you choose

  • Does it box you into one product? “The Saree Shelf” is perfect for sarees and odd for kids’ frocks. If you plan to add lines, keep the second word wide: studio, house, wear.
  • Does it make a claim? “Handloom”, “couture”, “organic” and craft names are promises. A buyer who feels misled asks for a refund and tells friends.
  • Does it sound like a known label? Clothing has many famous brands, and a name one letter away from one of them is not a new name. Buyers may feel tricked and the brand’s lawyers may write to you.
  • Can the person who receives it find you? Clothes are gifted a lot. The receiver sees only the label and the bag. If they can’t spell the name into Instagram from that, you lose the next order.
  • Can you say it on a phone call? Size and fit questions get settled on WhatsApp calls. If you have to spell the name, buyers will mistype it.

For a fuller method, and the difference between .com, .in and .store, read how to choose a name and domain for your online store.

The label test: a woven label is about the width of two fingers

Your name will be stitched into a neck label, printed on a swing tag, stamped on a bag and typed on a courier label. Woven labels are small and the thread is thick, so letters have a minimum size. Write your shortlisted name by hand on a strip of paper the width of two fingers. If you have to shrink the letters to make it fit, the name is too long, however good it sounds.

Two short words almost always pass. Three words pass if one is “&” or “Co.”. A tagline (“Handcrafted Ethnic Wear for the Modern Woman”) belongs in the bio and on the hang tag’s back, not in the name.

How to check the name is free

Do these in order and stop as soon as one fails. Labels are ordered in hundreds; changing the name after they arrive is the expensive way.

1. Check the Instagram handle

A handle is the name after the @ sign. Search yours in the app. If an active account has it, the name is gone for practical purposes, because your buyers will land on them. If it is free, create the account today. If it is taken, add “boutique”, “studio” or your city rather than numbers or stacked underscores, and check the longer version is free as a domain too.

2. Check the domain

A domain is the address people type to reach a website, such as yourbrand.com. Any company that sells domains has a search box that tells you in seconds whether a name is free. You don’t have to buy it today. On SitesPlaced, a free store gets an address like yourname.sitesplaced.site the moment you pick the store link, and your own domain connects on the Starter plan.

3. Search Google

Search the name with “boutique” and your city. You are looking for another clothing business with the same name. A café with the name is not a problem; a boutique is.

4. Avoid trade mark trouble

A trade mark is a name or logo registered to one business for a kind of product. India’s trade mark office, IP India (ipindia.gov.in), has a free public search. If someone has registered your name for clothing, choose another. Registering your own mark is a separate step with its own forms and costs; for that, and for anything you are unsure about, check with a trade mark lawyer.

5. Try it as your store link

On SitesPlaced the first part of your free address is the store link, set under Settings → Store details. It is saved in lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens. If another store has it, you will see “Slug is already taken”.

What to avoid

  • A festival in the name unless you only sell for that festival. “Diwali Drapes” looks closed in March. Keep the business name general and call the range “the festive edit”. Names built for the season are in Diwali business name ideas.
  • Craft and fabric claims you can’t back. “Pure silk”, “handloom”, “organic cotton” and “couture” are promises about every piece you sell.
  • Names close to a known label. Changing one letter or adding “the” does not make it a new name.
  • Numbers, hyphens and clever spellings. “Kurtaz4U” has to be spelled out on every call.
  • A different name on each app. If the Instagram handle, the WhatsApp Business name and the store name don’t match, buyers wonder if they have the right shop.

Put the name to work the same day

Once a name passes the checks, claim it everywhere at once: the Instagram handle, your WhatsApp Business name, and your store. On SitesPlaced a store is free to open, with 0% commission: unlimited products and orders, UPI and cards through your own Razorpay, PhonePe or Cashfree account, cash on delivery and WhatsApp checkout. The Clothing Store and Simple Fashion Store templates are among 16 free templates. Each category you create (kurtas, sarees, kids) gets its own page, so your bio can link straight to the right rack. The store name appears in the header, on invoices and in order emails.

Your own domain, such as yourbrand.com, comes with the Starter plan at ₹199/month or ₹1,990 a year. In India you can also pay ₹199 once for 30 days, with no autopay. Starter removes the SitesPlaced badge and makes your store’s pages answer about 4× faster than on the free plan: about 75 ms instead of about 330 ms, measured on live paid stores on 28 September 2026. “Answer” means how soon the page starts arriving, before the photos load. The code FREE7 gives 7 days free on Starter or Growth when you set up autopay; cancel before the first charge and you pay nothing. Frequently asked questions

What is a good name for a boutique?

One that hints at what you sell (ethnic, kids, western, men’s), is easy to type into Instagram, and fits on a woven label. Two short words beat one long one. Keep festival names out unless you only sell for that festival, and check the handle, domain and trade mark before printing anything.

Should a boutique name include the word boutique?

It helps on Google and on a shop board, because people search “boutique near me” and “ladies boutique”. It is less useful on Instagram, where it eats characters in the handle. A good middle path: keep “boutique” in the store name and the Google title, and drop it from the handle if the shorter version is free.

Can I name my boutique after myself?

Yes, and many of the best-known Indian labels are a designer’s name. Nobody can take it from you, and it tells buyers a real person stands behind the stitching. The trade-off is that a common first name is often already an Instagram handle, so you may need to add “by” or “studio”.

How do I check if a boutique name is already taken?

Search the handle on Instagram, search the domain on any domain seller’s site, search the name on Google with “boutique” and your city, run the public trade mark search on the IP India website, and try the name as your store link. If a clothing business already uses it, choose another.

Do I need to register my boutique name?

Registering the business and registering the name as a trade mark are separate steps, and what you need depends on how you set up and where you are. Confirm with a CA. What you can do today at no cost is make sure nobody else is using the name, then take the Instagram handle and your store link.

Is it OK to use a craft name like chikankari or ajrakh in my boutique name?

Yes, if that is genuinely what you sell. Craft names set a clear expectation, and a buyer who orders from “Chikankari Corner” and receives machine embroidery will feel misled. Some crafts also have protected place-of-origin status, so describe the work honestly in your listings.

How many boutique names should I shortlist?

Three to five. Run them all through the checks at once, since the first favourite often fails at Instagram or the trade mark search. Then say each survivor out loud as if confirming an order on a call, and write it on a label the size of your thumb. Pick the one that passes both.

Can I change my store name later on SitesPlaced?

Yes. The store name is under Settings → Store details and can be changed at any time. The store link can be changed too, but the old link stops working and is not redirected, so every link in your bio and on printed tags would break. Settle on the name early.
