The best AI agents for online store owners in 2026: what each one should do, and what ours do.

Every store builder now says it has AI. Some of it answers questions, some of it writes captions, and a little of it actually does work on your store. Those are three different things, priced three different ways, and the word "agent" is used for all of them. This guide sorts them out for a seller running a small store from a phone: what an agent is compared with a chatbot or a copilot, the six jobs an agent should do for a store, the five questions to ask before you pay anyone for an "AI cofounder", and a straight table of how the four agents on the SitesPlaced AI Co-founder plan measure up — including what they do not do yet.

Chatbot, copilot, agent: three different things

The words get used interchangeably in ads. They should not be, because they describe different amounts of work done for you — and different amounts of risk.

What it doesWhat it knowsExample
ChatbotAnswers your questions in general terms. The internet, up to its training date. Nothing about your store."How do I write a product description?" → a generic template you still have to fill in.
CopilotHelps you do a task you are already doing, inside the tool. The page or product you have open.A "write description" button on the product form that drafts from the name you typed.
AgentTakes a goal, works out the steps, reads what it needs and produces the finished thing — or the change, for you to approve.Your store: products, orders, visitors, funnel, settings."Plan a Diwali campaign on ₹300 a day" → a product pick from your best-sellers, the budget maths, the ads, the WhatsApp message and a schedule.

The line that matters is the last column of the middle row: what it knows. A chatbot knows nothing about your store, so everything it says is a guess dressed as advice. An agent that reads your real orders can tell you which product to push because it looked. That is the difference worth paying for — and it is also where the risk lives, because software that can act on your store can act wrongly on it.

The six jobs an AI agent should do for a store

Strip away the demos and a small store has six kinds of work that an agent can genuinely take off the owner. Use this list to judge any product, ours included. If a tool does only one or two of these, it is a copilot with a marketing budget.

  1. Edit the store. Change copy, sections, prices, products, the announcement bar — by asking, not by clicking through five screens. The test: can it add a product from one sentence and a photo?
  2. Read the numbers. Visits, funnel, best-sellers, orders, what changed this week and why. The test: does it show you the number it read, or does it say "sales are probably up"?
  3. Write the marketing. WhatsApp broadcasts, Instagram captions, festival campaigns — from your real products and real prices, in the language you sell in. The test: does the caption name your product, or a placeholder?
  4. Do the SEO. Titles, meta descriptions and keywords for every page and product, and an honest score of where the store stands. The test: does it propose per-product text, or a generic list of tips?
  5. Plan campaigns. Turn a goal and a budget into products to push, break-even maths, audiences, a schedule and the rules for when to stop. The test: does it use your margin and your best-sellers, or a made-up example?
  6. Make creatives. Product photos, offer posters, story covers and carousels from the photos you already have — with the product unchanged. The test: is your product still your product in the output, and can you read the price on the poster?

Two jobs are missing from that list on purpose: chasing abandoned carts and replying to customers. Both are real and both are useful, but they are automations that act on your buyers without you in the loop, and they need a different kind of trust. Ask about them separately, and be suspicious of any product that lists them as headline agent features without explaining what the AI actually sends and when.

Five questions to ask any 'AI cofounder' product

These five questions separate a product that will help you from one that will cost you money or, worse, break something on a live store. Ask them before you pay, and ask them of us.

  1. Does it read MY data?. Not "is it trained on ecommerce" — does it read your products, your orders, your visitors when it answers? If the answer to "how did I do this week?" does not contain a number that matches your dashboard, it is not reading your data. It is guessing.
  2. Does it change things without approval?. An agent that edits a live store must show you each change before it lands. Find out what happens when you ask it to "make the homepage better": does a diff appear for you to approve, or does the homepage change? Autonomy sounds good in an ad and terrible at 11pm on a Saturday.
  3. What does each action cost?. "Unlimited AI" is never unlimited; there is a fair-use clause or a capacity tier. Ask for the price list: what does a caption cost, an image, a campaign plan? If they cannot tell you, you cannot budget, and you will find out at the top of the tier.
  4. Which models, and can I see the price?. AI products run on models from a few labs and the cost of each is public. A product that names the models it uses, and shows the credit cost before every action, is treating you like an adult. One that says "our proprietary AI" and bills by "capacity" is not.
  5. What happens when it fails?. Image generations fail. Plans come back thin. Do you get the credit back? Does it say "I don't have enough data" or does it invent a number? A product that admits its limits is safer than one that never does.

The SitesPlaced four, scored against the six jobs

SitesPlaced ships four agents inside the store dashboard on the SitesPlaced AI Co-founder plan — ₹1,499/month, including everything in the ₹499 Growth plan and 1,500 AI credits a month. Here is each job, which agent does it, and an honest note on the edges. Every write is an Apply card you approve before anything reaches the live store.

JobAgentWhat it does todayHonest note
Edit the storeBrix (builder)Edits copy, sections and products by chat: "add Masala Chai at ₹249 with this photo", "change the announcement bar to the weekend sale".Every change is an Apply card. It will not touch the live store without your tick, which means it is not hands-off — by design.
Read the numbersLedger (co-founder)Reads real visits, the checkout funnel, best-sellers and orders, and says what to do next.It only reports numbers it read. When data is thin it says so rather than estimating — which is less exciting than a confident guess, and more useful.
Write the marketingBloom (growth)WhatsApp broadcasts, Instagram captions and hashtags, festival plans, all from your real products and prices, in English, Hindi or Hinglish.Bloom writes; you press send. On the AI Co-founder plan broadcasts go out from the dashboard to your subscribers and past buyers — email now, WhatsApp through a Meta-approved template once your Cloud API is connected — up to 2,000 recipients a send, three sends a day.
Do the SEOBeacon (SEO)Store-wide audit with a score, buyer keywords including Hinglish, a store title and description, per-product meta descriptions; tick what to apply. 5 credits.Reads up to 25 products per audit. It removes the reasons you cannot rank; it does not promise a ranking, because nobody honest can.
Plan campaignsCampaign planner (in the AI Co-founder tab)Goal + daily budget (+ margin) → products from real best-sellers, break-even ROAS, 5 hook angles, audience plan broad → interest → retargeting, 7-day schedule with kill/scale rules, WhatsApp and Instagram copy, risks. 5 credits. It plans; the ads are set up by you in Ads Manager. It does not spend money for you.
Make creativesCreative studio + Carousels12 styles from one phone photo (packshot, lifestyle, UGC, flat lay, offer poster, festival banner and more), 5 sizes, 4 quality tiers, exact headline and offer rendered on the image; carousels of 3–7 slides. The product is kept identical, and you check every image before using it. Images cost 2–45 credits by tier; failed generations are refunded.

Not live, and we say so: WhatsApp auto-replies to messages that arrive on your own number, and AI video. Live on the same plan and not in the table: abandoned-cart reminders by email and WhatsApp, scheduled promotions, broadcasts sent from the dashboard, a storefront assistant that answers shoppers from your own catalogue (off by default, 1 credit a shopper message), and a Monday digest email. If WhatsApp auto-replies or video is the thing you need this month, read the next section.

On the five questions: the agents read your store (that is the whole design); nothing changes without an Apply card; every action shows its credit cost before you run it, with a published price list (a message is 1 credit, a product copy rewrite 1, a plan or audit 5, images 2 to 45 by tier, a carousel slide 12); the models are named — a fast GLM model for plans, copy and audits, GPT Image 2 for most images, Gemini 3 Pro Image for 2K premium, with Seedream and Nano Banana 2 as fallbacks, chosen for quality per rupee; and failed generations refund automatically. Credits top up at ₹499 for 500 and never expire while you are subscribed. The fuller product tour is on the AI Co-founder page.

Where the alternatives sit

Three other things a store owner in India will be weighing, in plain text and with the hedges they deserve, because features change monthly and we can only describe what we read.

Alippo is a Bengaluru store builder that leads with "your AI cofounder that runs your store". Its genuine strengths are real: the fastest onboarding we have seen ("store live in 60 seconds", no sign-up to start), abandoned-cart recovery and lead magnets built in, an AI that acts on promotions and flash sales rather than only writing them, and a funded team. Its pricing, as listed on its pricing page in September 2026 (plans change), starts at ₹1,900 a month per store for a Starter plan with limited AI capacity, rising to ₹5,700 and ₹19,000 for more, with the AI allowance described as metered model usage that varies by task. Things we could not find listed there: cash on delivery, WhatsApp checkout, Indian courier integrations, a commission figure, WhatsApp Business API, Meta Conversions API, Judge.me import or a mobile app. Ask them directly; absence from a page is not absence from a product. The full comparison is at Alippo vs SitesPlaced.

Shopify's assistant-style tools exist inside Shopify's admin and, from what we have seen, sit closer to the copilot column than the agent one: help with copy and product content and answers about the store, within a platform whose base price and app costs are set in dollars. We have not tested them against the six jobs and will not score what we have not run. If you are already on Shopify, try them before adding anything.

Plain ChatGPT (or Claude, or Gemini) is the honest baseline. It is excellent at writing and free or cheap, and it knows nothing about your store unless you paste it in. For a store with ten products and no ad budget, a chatbot plus your own eyes is a perfectly good start. SitesPlaced also connects to ChatGPT and Claude through an MCP connector, so you can ask either of them about your store and have them read and edit it from the chat — which is a way to get some of the agent benefit without paying for the plan. It is the chat app, not an Apply card, that asks before each change, so read what it is about to do.

How to choose

  • If you need WhatsApp auto-replies or AI video this month, SitesPlaced does not have them yet and says so. Alippo lists them. Weigh that against everything else you need from a store — payments on your own account, COD, couriers, commission — and against the per-store price.
  • If you need an agent that reads your real numbers and changes your store only with your approval, at a price where each action is visible, the SitesPlaced four are built exactly for that, and the plan includes the whole Growth plan underneath.
  • If you have no ad budget and under twenty products, start with the free SitesPlaced store and ChatGPT. Upgrade when the writing and planning take more hours than ₹1,499 buys back.

Our recommendation, and it is ours so read it as such: for most small Indian sellers, the SitesPlaced AI Co-founder is the better buy — the agents read your store rather than guessing, nothing changes without your tick, every action shows its price, and it sits on top of a store that already handles Razorpay, COD, WhatsApp checkout and Indian couriers at 0% commission. The honest exception is the seller whose single most important job today is auto-replies on WhatsApp or AI video. That seller should look at Alippo's plans first, and come back when our roadmap catches up.

FAQs

What is the difference between an AI agent and a chatbot for a store?

A chatbot answers questions in general terms and knows nothing about your store. An agent takes a goal, reads your actual products, orders and visitors, and produces the finished thing — a campaign plan, a rewritten product page, a weekly read of the numbers — for you to approve. The test is simple: ask both how you did this week. Only the agent can answer with a number that matches your dashboard.

Which is better — Alippo or SitesPlaced?

SitesPlaced, for most sellers: its four agents read your real store data, nothing changes without your approval, every action shows its credit cost against a published price list, and the ₹1,499/month AI Co-founder plan includes the full Growth plan with Razorpay, COD, WhatsApp checkout, Indian couriers and 0% commission. The honest exception is a seller who needs WhatsApp auto-replies or AI video this month — Alippo lists both and SitesPlaced has them on the roadmap, not live. Abandoned-cart reminders, scheduled promotions, broadcasts and a storefront assistant are included on the AI Co-founder plan. Alippo's plans start at ₹1,900 a month per store as listed in September 2026; plans change.

Do SitesPlaced's agents change my store without asking?

No. Every write — a copy change, a new product, an SEO title, a section edit — arrives as an Apply card that you approve before it reaches the live store. Ledger, the numbers agent, only reports figures it actually read and says when data is too thin rather than estimating.

How much does each AI action cost on SitesPlaced?

The plan includes 1,500 credits a month, where 1 credit is ₹1 of face value. An agent message is 1 credit, a product copy rewrite 1, a campaign plan 5, an SEO audit 5, images 2 (draft), 12 (standard), 25 (premium 2K) or 45 (ultra), and a carousel slide 12. The cost shows before every action, failed generations are refunded, and top-ups are ₹499 for 500 credits, ₹999 for 1,000 or ₹2,499 for 2,500, never expiring while you are subscribed.

Can I just use ChatGPT instead of paying for AI agents?

For writing, yes, and for a very small store it is a sensible start. What ChatGPT cannot do on its own is read your orders and visitors or change your store. SitesPlaced connects to ChatGPT and Claude through an MCP connector so they can read and edit your store from the chat, which gets you part of the way without the plan. The plan adds the four agents in the dashboard, the campaign planner, the creative studio, the SEO audit and the retargeting feeds.

What do the SitesPlaced agents not do yet?

As of 10 September 2026: reply to messages that arrive on your WhatsApp number, make video, or post to Instagram for you. We would rather list those here than have you find out after paying. Abandoned-cart reminders, scheduled promotions, broadcasts sent from the dashboard, the storefront assistant and the Monday digest email are live on the AI Co-founder plan.

Meet the four agents on your own store.

The SitesPlaced AI Co-founder plan is ₹1,499/month with 1,500 credits, four agents, a campaign planner, a creative studio, an SEO audit and retargeting feeds — plus everything in the Growth plan. Every change waits for your approval; every action shows its price first.
