Product review apps for Indian stores, compared honestly — including the free option.
Every store builder has an app store, and every app store has a dozen review apps that look the same in screenshots. For a small Indian store the questions are narrower: does it work on my platform, does it reach buyers who only use WhatsApp, does it get stars into Google, and what does it cost once I'm doing two hundred orders a month? Here is the short list, what each is good at, and why the answer for many stores is the one that costs nothing.
The quick answer
| Tool | Best for | Runs on | Free tier | Paid from (approx.) |

Judge.me
The default recommendation on Shopify for good reason: a real free plan with unlimited review requests, photo and video reviews, a Q&A widget, and Google rich snippets. Paid tiers add carousels, syndication and a Google Shopping feed. It runs on several platforms, which makes it portable. The catch for a small Indian store is only that it is an app: a second dashboard, an email schedule of its own, and its own widget script on the page. If you already use it and are moving platforms, the reviews can be imported into SitesPlaced in minutes. We wrote a fuller comparison: Judge.me alternative.
Loox
Loox is built around photo reviews — the review request pushes buyers to add a picture, and the gallery widgets are the best-looking in the category. For fashion, jewellery and home decor on Shopify it is a strong choice. It is Shopify-only, has no free tier beyond a trial, and its pricing scales with order volume, which is fine at fifty orders a month and less fine at five hundred.
Yotpo
Yotpo is the enterprise-leaning option: reviews, loyalty points, referrals and SMS marketing in one suite. Large D2C brands use it because the pieces talk to each other. For a store doing a few hundred orders a month it is more than you need and priced accordingly; the free plan is deliberately limited to move you up.
Reviews.io and Trustpilot
Both are primarily *company* review platforms — they answer "is this business trustworthy?" rather than "is this product good?". Reviews.io adds product reviews and can feed Google Seller Ratings (the stars next to your ads). Trustpilot is a trust badge more than a product tool, and its paid tiers are priced for brands, not sellers. Neither is where a small Indian store should start.
Google Business reviews
Free, and worth having if you have any physical presence — a studio, a shop, a pickup point. Google reviews show in Maps and in brand searches and do a lot for "is this real" trust. They are not product reviews, though: they don't attach to a specific item on your store, and they don't produce product star ratings in search. Run them alongside product reviews, not instead of them.
The built-in option: reviews as part of the store
SitesPlaced takes a different approach: reviews are part of the order flow rather than an app. Marking an order delivered sends the buyer a review email with a Rate it button per product; for WhatsApp-only buyers (most COD orders), the merchant copies a review link from the order and sends it in the chat they already have. The review lands as pending, the merchant approves or replies, and approved reviews show on the product page with a Verified purchase badge and feed the product's structured data for Google stars.
What it doesn't have yet: photo upload on new reviews, Q&A, carousel widgets, a Google Shopping feed. What it does have that the apps don't: zero cost at any volume, no widget script, the WhatsApp path that matches how Indian buyers actually talk to sellers, and a Judge.me import so switching costs nothing.
How to choose
- On Shopify, happy, want photos and carousels: Judge.me (free) or Loox (photo-first).
- Large D2C brand with a marketing team: Yotpo.
- Want company-level trust for ads: Reviews.io; Google Business reviews if you have a location.
- Small store, especially in India, especially selling through Instagram and WhatsApp: the built-in reviews on a SitesPlaced store — free, verified, WhatsApp-friendly, Google stars included. Import your Judge.me history if you have one.
The recommendation for most small stores is the last one, for a reason that has nothing to do with features: an app you have to remember to configure gets configured late or never, while a review request that fires because you marked an order delivered happens every time.
FAQs
Which review app is best for a small store in India?
For a small store selling through Instagram and WhatsApp, the built-in reviews on a SitesPlaced store: verified-purchase reviews, a review link you can send on WhatsApp, approval and replies, and Google star ratings, all free. If you are on Shopify, Judge.me's free plan is the strongest app option.
Do I need a review app to get Google star ratings?
No. Stars come from Product structured data with an aggregateRating on the product page. Apps add it through their widget; SitesPlaced writes it automatically from approved reviews. Google then decides whether to show the stars.
Can review apps reach customers who paid cash on delivery with only a phone number?
Most apps request reviews by email or SMS. On SitesPlaced you copy a review link from the order and send it on WhatsApp — the link opens the form for that specific order.
Are Google Business reviews the same as product reviews?
No. Google Business reviews are about your business as a whole and show in Maps and brand searches. Product reviews attach to a specific item on your store and produce product star ratings. Small stores benefit from both.
Can I move my reviews if I change apps or platforms?
Judge.me, Loox, Yotpo and Reviews.io all export CSV. SitesPlaced imports Judge.me directly through its API (dates, stars, photos and verified status kept).
Reviews without another subscription.
Verified product reviews, WhatsApp review links, approval and Google star ratings — built into a store that is free to publish with unlimited products and 0% commission.
