Home bakery business name ideas: 100 names for cakes, cookies, brownies and plum cakes
A good home bakery name makes people hungry, is easy to type into Instagram from the sticker on a box, and leaves room on the label for your FSSAI details. Below are 100 names grouped by style and by what you bake, with the meaning of every Hindi word, and the checks to run before you order a single box.
Two things to know first. We have not checked any of these 100 names against Instagram, domain sellers or the trade mark register; someone may already be using one, and the common phrases (flour power, bake lab) probably are. Treat the list as a starting point. And be careful with promise words: “eggless”, “sugar free”, “gluten free” and “wholewheat” must be true of everything you sell if they are in the name.
TL;DR
- • 100 ideas in ten groups: classic, modern, Hindi and regional, cakes, cookies, brownies, Christmas and plum cakes, playful, premium and descriptive.
- • Best pattern: an ingredient or oven word (crumb, makkhan, ganache) plus a place word (bakehouse, studio, co.).
- • Check five places: Instagram, the domain, Google, the trade mark search, and your store link.
- • Avoid: diet claims that aren’t true of every bake, anything close to a famous bakery, and a name that won’t fit beside the FSSAI label.
- • Then claim it the same day: the handle, the WhatsApp Business name and a free store link.
How to use this list
Most names here are two halves: an ingredient or oven word (crumb, butter, makkhan, ganache) and a word for the place or the maker (bakehouse, studio, co., atelier). Take one as it is or swap the halves: “Ganache Studio”, “Makkhan Bakehouse”. Your own first name is the one half nobody else can use.
Many of the words are Hindi; the meaning sits next to each. If your buyers speak another language, use the same pattern with a word from theirs. A name they already understand needs no explaining in the bio.

Five questions before you choose
- Does it make a promise about every bake? “Eggless”, “sugar free”, “gluten free” and “wholewheat” in the name mean the whole menu. If only some items qualify, keep the word on the product, not in the name.
- Can the person who eats it find you? Cakes are gifts and party food. The person eating a slice sees only the sticker on the box. If they can’t spell the name into Instagram from that, you lose the next order.
- Does it box you into one product? “Oops All Brownies” is a great brownie name and an odd cake name. If you plan to widen the menu, keep the second word wide: bakes, bakehouse, oven.
- Does it sound like a famous bakery? Dessert chains have lawyers. A name one letter away from theirs is not a new name.
- Can you say it on a phone call? Most custom cake orders are confirmed by voice note. If you have to spell it, buyers will mistype it.

The label test: your name shares the box with the FSSAI label
A food label is crowded. Beside your name it carries the FSSAI number, ingredients, allergens, the net weight and the date. That leaves your name a strip not much wider than a coin on a cake box, and less on a cookie jar lid. Write the shortlisted name by hand in that space. If you have to shrink the letters, the name is too long, however good it sounds.
Two short words almost always pass. Three words pass if one is “&” or “Co.”. The tagline (“Freshly Baked with Love in Pune”) goes on the box insert, not in the name. And whatever you print, keep the spelling identical on the box, the handle and the store, including the apostrophe in a pun like “Doughn’t Worry”.
How to check the name is free
Do these in order and stop as soon as one fails. Boxes and stickers are ordered in hundreds; changing the name after they arrive is the expensive way.
1. Check the Instagram handle
A handle is the name after the @ sign. Search yours in the app. If an active account has it, the name is gone for practical purposes, because your buyers will land on them. If it is free, create the account today. If it is taken, add “bakes”, “bakehouse” or your city rather than numbers or stacked underscores, and check the longer version is free as a domain too.
2. Check the domain
A domain is the address people type to reach a website, such as yourbakery.com. Any company that sells domains has a search box that tells you in seconds whether a name is free. You don’t have to buy it today. On SitesPlaced, a free store gets an address like yourname.sitesplaced.site the moment you pick the store link, and your own domain connects on the Starter plan.
3. Search Google
Search the name with “bakery” or “cakes” and your city. You are looking for another baker with the same name. A boutique with the name is not a problem; a bakery is.
4. Avoid trade mark trouble
A trade mark is a name or logo registered to one business for a kind of product. India’s trade mark office, IP India (ipindia.gov.in), has a free public search. If someone has registered your name for bakery goods or food, choose another. Registering your own mark is a separate step with its own forms and costs; for that, and for anything you are unsure about, check with a trade mark lawyer.
5. Try it as your store link
On SitesPlaced the first part of your free address is the store link, set under Settings → Store details. It is saved in lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens. If another store has it, you will see “Slug is already taken”.
| Check | Where | If it is taken |
|---|---|---|
| Instagram handle | Search the name in the Instagram app | Add “bakes”, “bakehouse” or your city; avoid numbers and stacked underscores |
| Domain | The search box on any domain seller’s site | Try .in if .com is gone, or pick another name |
| Search the name with “bakery” and your city | If a bakery with that name shows up, move on | |
| Trade mark | The public search on the IP India website | Choose another name; ask a trade mark lawyer if unsure |
| Store link | Settings → Store details in your SitesPlaced store | You will see “Slug is already taken”; try a close variation |
The licence question, briefly
Selling food from home in India generally needs FSSAI registration, done through the FoSCoS portal at foscos.fssai.gov.in. Which category you fall under depends on your turnover and setup, so confirm what applies to you on the portal or with a CA before the first paid order. Pick the name first, because the registration is in the business name and the number goes on every label. The rest of the setup, from pricing to delivery, is in how to start a home bakery business online.
What to avoid
- A festival in the name unless you only bake for that festival. “Christmas Crumbs” looks closed in March. Keep the business name general and call the range “the plum cake edit”. Festive names are in Diwali business name ideas.
- Diet and allergy claims you can’t back. “Sugar free” and “gluten free” carry health weight. Put them in a name only if every item qualifies.
- Names close to a famous bakery or dessert chain. Changing one letter does not make it a new name.
- Numbers, hyphens and clever spellings. “Kakes4U” has to be spelled out on every call. A pun is fine if you spell it the same way everywhere.
- A different name on each app. If the Instagram handle, the WhatsApp Business name and the store name don’t match, buyers wonder if they have the right baker.
Put the name to work the same day
Once a name passes the checks, claim it everywhere at once: the Instagram handle, your WhatsApp Business name, and your store. On SitesPlaced a store is free to open, with 0% commission: unlimited products and orders, UPI and cards through your own Razorpay, PhonePe or Cashfree account, cash on delivery and WhatsApp checkout. The Food Store template is one of 16 free templates. Put “orders close Thursday” in the announcement bar and pause ordering when the oven is full; both are on the free plan. The store name appears in the header, on invoices and in order emails.
Your own domain, such as yourbakery.com, comes with the Starter plan at ₹199/month or ₹1,990 a year. In India you can also pay ₹199 once for 30 days, with no autopay. Starter removes the SitesPlaced badge and makes your store’s pages answer about 4× faster than on the free plan: about 75 ms instead of about 330 ms, measured on live paid stores on 28 September 2026. “Answer” means how soon the page starts arriving, before the photos load. The code FREE7 gives 7 days free on Starter or Growth when you set up autopay; cancel before the first charge and you pay nothing. Frequently asked questions
What is a good name for a home bakery?
One that makes people hungry, is easy to type into Instagram from a sticker on a box, and fits on a cake-box label next to your FSSAI details. Two short words usually beat one long one. Check the Instagram handle, the domain and the trade mark register before you print anything.
Should I put cake or bakery in my business name?
It helps on Google, because people search “cake shop near me” and “home bakery in” their city. On Instagram it eats characters in the handle. A good middle path is to keep “cakes” or “bakes” in the store name and the Google title, and drop it from the handle if the shorter version is free.
Do I need an FSSAI licence to run a home bakery?
Generally yes. Anyone selling food in India, including from home, is expected to register with FSSAI through the FoSCoS portal at foscos.fssai.gov.in. Which category applies depends on your turnover and setup, so confirm what applies to you on the portal or with a CA before you take your first paid order.
How do I check if a bakery name is already taken?
Search the handle on Instagram, search the domain on any domain seller’s site, search the name on Google with “bakery” and your city, run the public trade mark search on the IP India website, and try the name as your store link. If a bakery already uses it, choose another.
Can I name my bakery after a famous cake shop with a small change?
No. A name that looks or sounds like a well-known bakery or dessert chain can confuse buyers and can get you a legal notice or a removed Instagram account. Changing one letter or adding “the” does not make it a new name. If you are unsure, ask a trade mark lawyer.
Is it OK to use eggless, sugar-free or gluten-free in the name?
Only if it is true of everything you sell. A buyer who orders from “Sugar Free Bakes” and gets a regular brownie has a real complaint, and allergy words like gluten-free carry safety weight. If only part of your menu qualifies, keep the claim out of the name and put it on the product.
How many bakery names should I shortlist?
Three to five. Run them all through the checks at once, because the first favourite often fails at Instagram or the trade mark search. Then say each survivor out loud as if confirming an order on a call, and write it on a sticker the size of a coin. Pick the one that passes both.
Can I change my store name later on SitesPlaced?
Yes. The store name is under Settings → Store details and can be changed at any time. The store link can be changed too, but the old link stops working and is not redirected, so every link in your bio and on printed boxes would break. Settle on the name early.
