The best AI co-founder for an online store in 2026: what to demand before you pay.
A year ago nobody sold an AI co-founder. Now everything is one: a chat box on a dashboard, a caption writer, a store builder with a rotating list of promises. They are priced differently, they are trusted with different amounts of your business, and the word does not tell you which is which. This guide gives you eight questions that do, a plain look at the kinds of product on sale rather than a list of twenty brands, a fair account of the company leading the category in India, and honest answers to all eight for our own product. Read the answers we give about ourselves with the suspicion you would give any vendor.
What an AI co-founder should actually be
Strip the marketing away and three things separate a co-founder from a chat box. It reads your real store, not ecommerce in general. It can act on the store, not only describe what you should do. And it tells you what each thing costs before it does it.
Miss the first and every answer is a guess with confidence attached. Miss the second and you have bought a writing assistant with a store-shaped logo. Miss the third and you find out what you bought at the end of the month, or at the ceiling of a tier nobody would define for you.
Eight questions to ask before you pay
Ask these of every product on your shortlist, ours included. Send them by email so the answers are in writing.
- Does it read my real numbers, or does it guess. The test takes one minute. Ask it how the store did last week. If the answer does not contain a number you can find in your own dashboard, it is not reading your store. It is producing plausible advice, which is a different product sold at the same price.
- Is there a price per action, or only capacity. Unlimited AI and metered capacity are the same sentence in different clothes: neither tells you what a thing costs before you do it. Ask for the price list. What does one image cost, one campaign plan, one rewrite? A product that can answer is a product you can budget for.
- Does anything change without my approval. Ask what happens when you say make my homepage better. Does a change appear for you to approve, or does the homepage change? Autonomy reads well in an ad and badly at eleven at night, when a live store has quietly repriced itself.
- Can I use my own assistant. You may already pay for ChatGPT or Claude. Ask whether the store publishes an MCP connector so your assistant can read and change it directly, and ask for the URL. If the AI is only reachable inside their chat box, you are paying twice for reasoning and once for the lock-in.
- Does it own the store, or only talk about it. Can it add a product, change a price, publish the page, take the order, print the label? A marketing tool that sits beside your store can suggest all day and change nothing. That is a legitimate product, but it is a second subscription on top of the store you already pay for.
- What happens to my data. Four sub-questions worth asking in writing: who inside the company can read my store data, is it used to train models, can I revoke access, and can I get my customer list out if I leave. A vendor that answers all four plainly is telling you how it will behave later.
- What is genuinely not built yet. Every demo is a roadmap in a good mood. Ask which of the features you just watched are live today for a paying customer. A vendor that names two things it cannot do has told you more about its honesty than any testimonial.
- What does it cost per store. Per store or per account? What does the second store cost? And what happens if you stop paying: does the shop stay up, does the domain keep pointing at it, do you keep the data? Ask before you buy, not on the day you are short.
Five kinds of product, one name
It is more useful to compare categories than brands, because brands move between them every quarter. Almost everything on sale in 2026 is one of these five.
| Kind | What it is genuinely good at | What to check first |
|---|---|---|
| The AI store builder that runs the store for you | The fastest possible start, and automation switched on from day one. One product to learn instead of five. | The price per store, and what capacity means in units you can count. Ask what a month of heavy use costs. |
| A large hosted platform with an assistant in its admin | Everything around the AI is mature: apps, themes, logistics, an ecosystem that has existed for years. | Whether the assistant is an agent or a copilot. We have not tested these against the eight questions and will not score what we have not run. Add up the platform, the apps and the currency they are billed in. |
| An AI marketing app on top of a store you already run | One job done well, and you keep the store you already have. | It talks about your store rather than owning it, so it can propose and not do. And it is a subscription on top of a subscription. |
| A general assistant on its own, such as ChatGPT or Claude | Cheap, excellent at writing, no lock-in at all, and you probably already pay for it. | It knows nothing about your store unless you paste it in, and it cannot change anything, unless your store publishes an MCP connector it can use. |
| A store builder with the AI built into it | One bill, and an AI that reads and writes the store it lives in rather than describing it from outside. | Whether the store underneath is any good on its own. An AI layer is worth nothing on a store that cannot take a payment your customers use. |
Notice that the fourth row is not a joke option. For a store with fifteen products and no ad budget, a good assistant and your own eyes will beat most paid AI layers, and it costs a fraction. Buy the layer when the writing, the photographing and the remembering take more hours a month than the plan costs you.
Alippo, fairly
In India the phrase belongs to Alippo, a Bengaluru company whose whole product is an AI cofounder that runs your store. They earned the position, and pretending otherwise would waste your time.
What is genuinely good about it: the fastest first minute in the category, with a store existing in about a minute and no sign-up needed to start. Abandoned-cart recovery, lead magnets and live purchase counters are listed as built in rather than bolted on. The AI is positioned to act on promotions and flash sales rather than only writing about them, and changes are presented for review before they go live. It is a funded team with a real background in helping home-based women entrepreneurs, and that shows in the onboarding.
On price, as listed on their pricing page in September 2026, and plans change so confirm before you buy: building is free, going live needs a paid plan, and the plans run from about ₹1,900 a month per store upward, with the AI allowance described as capacity that is metered and varies by task. One subscription covers one store.
The honest case for choosing them over us. If what you want is everything automated from day one, including the pieces we have not built, and you are comfortable paying per store for it, they are the better fit. Specifically: SitesPlaced does not reply to WhatsApp messages that arrive on your own number, and it does not make video. Both are real gaps, both matter to some sellers, and neither is coming this week. If either is your single most important job this month, buy accordingly and come back when our roadmap catches up. Our full side-by-side, with the rows where they win, is at Alippo vs SitesPlaced.
The eight questions, answered for SitesPlaced
SitesPlaced AI Co-founder is ₹1,499 a month and includes everything in the ₹499 Growth plan plus 1,500 AI credits, where one credit is ₹1 of face value. Here are our own answers, including the ones that are not flattering.
| Question | Our answer |
|---|---|
| 1. Real numbers or guesses | Ledger, the numbers agent, reads real orders, best sellers, visits and the checkout funnel, and says when the data is too thin rather than estimating. That is less exciting than a confident answer and more useful. |
| 2. Price per action | Published, and shown next to the button before you press it. An agent message is 1 credit, a product copy rewrite 1, a campaign plan 5, an SEO audit 5, images 2 for a draft, 12 standard, 25 premium, 45 ultra, a carousel slide 12, a storefront assistant reply 1. Failed generations are refunded automatically. |
| 3. Approval | Every write from an agent arrives as an Apply card you tick before it reaches the live store. The honest exception is the MCP connector: out there it is your chat app that asks you, not our card, so read the tool call. |
| 4. Your own assistant | Yes. Connect ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor or any MCP client to https://sitesplaced.com/api/mcp. Reading your numbers, reading and rewriting your SEO, saving it back, scheduling a promotion and checking your balance all cost zero credits there, because your assistant does the thinking and there is no model call of ours to bill. Only image generation charges. |
| 5. Owns the store | The AI lives inside the store it is editing. The store takes payments through your own Razorpay, PhonePe, Cashfree, Stripe or PayPal account, handles cash on delivery and WhatsApp checkout, books couriers, issues invoices, and takes 0% commission on every sale on every plan. |
| 6. Your data | The MCP connector is scoped to the account you sign in with, uses OAuth rather than a key you have to keep safe, and can be revoked from your settings. It cannot reach billing, plan changes, custom domains, tracking scripts, or your customer and order records. Your subscriber list exports as a CSV from the dashboard. The models we use are named rather than described as proprietary. Our policy is at /privacy. |
| 7. Not built yet | Replies to WhatsApp messages arriving on your own number, and AI video. Neither is live, and we would rather write that here than have you find out after paying. |
| 8. Cost per store | Publishing a real store is free with 0% commission. Starter is ₹199 a month, Growth ₹499, AI Co-founder ₹1,499, and the AI Co-founder plan covers one paid store, so a second paid store is a second subscription. If the plan lapses, the AI tab locks and the store keeps running on the plan you are left on, though a custom domain needs a paid plan to keep pointing at it. |
The full credit table with three worked example months is in AI credits explained.
What that plan actually contains, so you can weigh it against the price: four agents (Brix edits the store, Ledger reads the numbers, Bloom writes WhatsApp and Instagram marketing, Beacon does SEO), a campaign planner, a creative studio with 12 styles and 5 aspect ratios, Instagram carousels, a store-wide SEO audit, a retargeting kit with a Meta CSV and a Google XML product feed, abandoned-cart reminders by email at one hour and twenty-four hours plus WhatsApp through a Meta-approved template once your Cloud API is connected, broadcasts to subscribers and past buyers, an optional storefront assistant that answers shoppers from your own catalogue and is off until you switch it on, scheduled promotions, and a Monday digest of what actually happened.
Where you should not pick us
- You need WhatsApp auto-replies on your own number, or AI video, this month. We do not have either. No amount of the rest makes up for the one job you needed done.
- You want the AI to act on the store on its own while you sleep. Ours proposes and waits. If you find approval cards tiring rather than reassuring, buy something built the other way and go in with your eyes open.
- You are already deep in a large platform with staff, apps and warehouse integrations built around it. Moving stores is real work. Try that platform's own AI first and only move if it fails you.
- You have fifteen products and no ad budget. Publish free with 0% commission and use the assistant you already pay for. Upgrade when the hours are worth more than ₹1,499.
The recommendation
For most small Indian sellers, SitesPlaced is where we would put the money, and it is our product so read that as an argument rather than a verdict.
The case is the eight questions. You can publish a real store for free and keep 0% of every sale for yourself on every plan. When you want the AI, the price is a fixed ₹1,499 a month with everything in the Growth plan under it, and every action carries a published credit price you see before you press the button, instead of capacity you have to discover. Nothing reaches the live store without your approval. And the AI is not trapped in our chat box: connect the store to the ChatGPT or Claude you already pay for, and the reading, the thinking, the SEO rewriting and the promotion scheduling cost no credits at all, because there is no model call of ours to bill.
The honest exception stands where it did: if WhatsApp auto-replies or video is the job you need done this month, Alippo lists them and we do not. Everything else, we would rather you weighed on the questions than on the word.
FAQs
What should an AI co-founder do that a chatbot does not?
Three things. Read your real store, so an answer about last week contains a number from your own dashboard. Act on the store, so a rewrite actually reaches the product page. And show what each action costs before it runs. A product missing any of the three is a writing assistant, which is useful and should be priced as one.
Which is better, Alippo or SitesPlaced?
SitesPlaced, for most small sellers. You can publish a real store for free with 0% commission, and the AI Co-founder plan is a fixed ₹1,499 a month including everything in the ₹499 Growth plan, with a published credit price for every action, approval on every change, and the option to run it from your own ChatGPT or Claude at no credit cost. Alippo needs a paid plan to go live, from about ₹1,900 a month per store as listed on their pricing page in September 2026, with AI capacity metered by plan; plans change, so confirm. Choose Alippo if you need WhatsApp auto-replies on your own number or AI video this month, or if you want everything automated from day one and are happy to pay per store for it.
Is metered AI capacity worse than credits?
Not worse, different, and the difference is knowledge. Capacity lets a vendor run things for you without pricing each step, which is genuinely convenient. Credits tell you what a thing costs before you do it, which lets you budget and lets you decide that a premium image is not worth 25 credits today. Ask any capacity-based vendor what a heavy month costs; if they cannot say, you are the one carrying the uncertainty.
Can I use ChatGPT or Claude instead of paying for an AI plan?
For writing, yes, and for a small store it is a sensible start. What a general assistant cannot do on its own is read your orders or change your store. SitesPlaced publishes an MCP connector so ChatGPT, Claude or Cursor can do both, and on the AI Co-founder plan the reading, the SEO rewriting, the saving and the promotion scheduling cost zero credits through it. Only image generation charges, because it bills a real image model.
What is not built yet on SitesPlaced?
Replies to WhatsApp messages that arrive on your own number, and AI video. Both are real gaps and we list them rather than hiding them. Live today on the AI Co-founder plan: four agents, a campaign planner, a creative studio, Instagram carousels, a store-wide SEO audit, Meta and Google product feeds, abandoned-cart reminders by email and WhatsApp, broadcasts, scheduled promotions, an optional storefront assistant and a Monday digest.
Ask us the eight questions.
