Why reviews matter more for Instagram sellers than for anyone else.

A brand on Amazon borrows Amazon's trust. An Instagram seller has none to borrow. Every buyer who lands on your profile is deciding, from your posts alone, whether you are real, whether the product matches the photo, and whether the parcel will come. Reviews are the only thing on your page that a stranger wrote. That is why they are worth more to you than to a big store — and why a "reviews" highlight of blurry screenshots isn't doing the job you think it is.

The trust gap every Instagram seller starts with

Buyers have been burned. Fake seller accounts, prepaid orders that never shipped, products that looked nothing like the reel — everyone in India who shops on Instagram knows someone with a story. So the default state of a new visitor is suspicion, and your product photos, however good, cannot fix that on their own, because you made them.

What fixes it is evidence from someone with no stake in the sale. A review that says "ordered the mustard set, colour exactly as shown, reached Indore in 3 days, packing was careful" answers all three fears — real seller, real product, real delivery — in one sentence. Ten of those and the suspicion is gone before the buyer has read your caption.

Why the screenshots highlight isn't enough

Most sellers already know reviews matter, which is why the *Reviews* highlight exists: screenshots of WhatsApp thank-yous with names blurred. It is better than nothing. But look at it from the buyer's side: the screenshots could be from anyone, they are on the seller's account, the names are hidden, and the products are not identified. They prove you have talked to people. They do not prove anything about the specific kurta the buyer is looking at.

  • Not tied to a product. A buyer looking at product #14 wants to know about product #14.
  • Not verified. Nothing tells the reader this person actually bought and received the item.
  • Not searchable. Google cannot read a screenshot, so the reviews earn you nothing in search.
  • Easy to fake, and buyers know it, so they discount them.

Keep the highlight — it is a nice human touch. But it should point to the real thing: reviews on your own store, under the product, marked as verified.

What a verified review on your store page does differently

On a SitesPlaced store a review is written by a buyer through a link tied to their order — from the delivery email, from a link you send on WhatsApp, or from their account — and it appears under that product with a Verified purchase badge, a star rating and the date. The next buyer sees three things at once: the product, its average rating, and what people who received it said. There is no way to fake the badge, because the review had to come through a real order.

It also compounds. Every approved review updates the product's structured data, so Google can show stars under your product when someone searches for it. A screenshot in a highlight is seen by people who already found you; a star rating in search is seen by people who haven't.

How to collect reviews from buyers who only use WhatsApp

This is the part built for Instagram sellers specifically. A large share of your orders are cash on delivery with a phone number and no email. The email review request cannot reach them. So, in the order in your dashboard, press Copy review link and paste it into the WhatsApp chat you already have open with them, a day or two after the parcel arrives. The link opens the review form for that order — no login, no searching, one tap to rate.

The message can be one line: *"Hope the earrings reached you well! A quick rating here helps other buyers a lot 🙏 [link]"*. Send it once. Buyers who loved the product reply within the hour; the rest were never going to.

Mark delivered = automatic ask

If the order has an email, marking it Delivered sends the review email by itself — one Rate it button per product. Shiprocket, Shipmozo and Rehbar Post mark delivery for you.

Bad reviews are not the risk you think

The fear that stops sellers from asking is a 2-star review sitting on the product forever. Two things about that. First, you approve every review before it shows — so an abusive or off-topic one never appears. Second, a page with only 5-star reviews looks fake to Indian buyers who have seen enough of those; one honest 3-star ("nice fabric, runs slightly small") with your calm reply underneath makes the 5-star ones believable.

Reply to anything under four stars, publicly and briefly: what happened, what you changed. The next buyer reads your reply as carefully as the review. There is a whole guide to that: how to respond to negative reviews.

The first ten reviews: a plan

  1. Turn on reviews in your store dashboard (Reviews → Turn on). Free, two clicks.
  2. For the next twenty orders, mark each one Delivered the day it arrives, or send the review link on WhatsApp the day after.
  3. Approve every honest review, including the 3 and 4 stars. Reply to those.
  4. Put the product page link — not a screenshot — in the Reviews highlight and in your bio: *"see verified reviews on every product"*.
  5. Pin a reel of the product with a caption that quotes a real review and points to the page.

Ten verified reviews across your top three products is enough to change how a new visitor reads your whole profile. Most sellers who mark orders delivered get there within a month.

FAQs

Can I put reviews from WhatsApp screenshots on my store?

Not as verified reviews — those have to come through an order. But you can ask the same customer to leave the review through the link you send on WhatsApp; it takes them one tap, and it becomes a verified review under the right product.

What if a buyer leaves a fake or abusive review?

Every review waits for your approval before it shows. Reject the abusive one. A genuine but critical review is worth approving and replying to — it makes the rest credible.

Do buyers need an account to leave a review?

No. The link from the delivery email or from WhatsApp opens the form directly. A buyer can also use Track Order with their order ID and confirm the email or phone used at checkout.

Will the reviews help my Google ranking?

Approved reviews are added to the product page's structured data as an aggregate rating, which makes the page eligible for star ratings in search results. Stars raise click-through; the reviews' text also adds real customer language to the page.

Is this free?

Yes. Reviews, the review email, the WhatsApp link, approval and replies are all on the free SitesPlaced plan.
