Handmade craft business name ideas: 100 names for resin, crochet, macramé and pottery
A good handmade business name names the craft or the material, is easy to type into Instagram from a swing tag, and leaves room for the next thing you learn to make. Below are 100 names grouped by craft and by style, with the meaning of every Hindi word, and the checks to run before you print a single tag.
Two things to know first. We have not checked any of these 100 names against Instagram, domain sellers or the trade mark register; someone may already be using one, and the common phrases (one off, kaarigar, resin coasters india) probably are. Treat the list as a starting point. And be careful with place names: “Jaipur blue pottery” or “Channapatna toys” in a name means the work comes from there. Several Indian crafts have protected place-of-origin status, so use a place only if it is true.
TL;DR
- • 100 ideas in ten groups: classic, modern, Hindi and regional, resin, crochet and knitting, macramé, pottery, playful, premium and descriptive.
- • Best pattern: a technique or tool word (pour, hook, kiln, shilp) plus a place word (studio, house, co.).
- • Check five places: Instagram, the domain, Google, the trade mark search, and your store link.
- • Avoid: place names that aren’t true, a single craft in the name if you make several, and anything close to a known brand.
- • Then claim it the same day: the handle, the WhatsApp Business name and a free store link.
How to use this list
Most names here are two halves: a technique, tool or material word (pour, hook, kiln, cord, shilp) and a place or maker word (studio, house, co., atelier). Take one as it is or swap the halves: “Kiln Studio”, “Shilp House”. Your own first name is the one half nobody else can use.
The technique words are the useful part. “Handmade” is what every seller says; “thrown by hand” or “pour and cure” tells a buyer you know your craft. Many of the words are Hindi, with the meaning next to each. If your buyers speak another language, use the same pattern with a word from theirs.

Five questions before you choose
- Will you still make this in a year? Makers change crafts. If you started with resin and are drifting to pottery, “The Resin Room” will date fast. A wider word (studio, object, maker) survives the change.
- Does it make a claim? “Stoneware”, “organic cotton”, “sustainable” and a place name are promises about every piece you sell.
- Can the person who receives it find you? Handmade pieces are gifted constantly. The receiver sees only the swing tag. If they can’t spell the name into Instagram from that, you lose the next order.
- Does it sound like a known brand? Décor and craft brands, and the big handmade marketplaces, have lawyers. A name one letter away from theirs is not a new name.
- Can you say it on a phone call? Custom orders are agreed on WhatsApp voice notes. If you have to spell it, buyers will mistype it.
For a fuller method, and the difference between .com, .in and .store, read how to choose a name and domain for your online store.
The label test: a swing tag is the size of your thumb
Your name will live on a swing tag tied to the piece with string, a stamp on a kraft box, a sticker on tissue paper and a courier label. The swing tag is the one buyers keep. Write the shortlisted name by hand on a piece of card the size of your thumb. If you have to shrink the letters to make it fit, the name is too long, however good it sounds.
Two short words almost always pass. Three words pass if one is “&” or “Co.”. The care note (“Hand wash, dry flat”) and the story of the piece go on the back of the tag, not in the name. Put your Instagram handle on the tag too; a buyer who loved the piece will look for the next one there.
How to check the name is free
Do these in order and stop as soon as one fails. A stamp or a batch of tags is cheap once; ordering them twice is not.
1. Check the Instagram handle
A handle is the name after the @ sign. Search yours in the app. If an active account has it, the name is gone for practical purposes, because your buyers will land on them. If it is free, create the account today. If it is taken, add “studio”, “makes” or your city rather than numbers or stacked underscores, and check the longer version is free as a domain too.
2. Check the domain
A domain is the address people type to reach a website, such as yourbrand.com. Any company that sells domains has a search box that tells you in seconds whether a name is free. You don’t have to buy it today. On SitesPlaced, a free store gets an address like yourname.sitesplaced.site the moment you pick the store link, and your own domain connects on the Starter plan.
3. Search Google
Search the name with your craft and your city. You are looking for another maker in the same craft with the same name. A bakery with the name is not a problem; a potter is.
4. Avoid trade mark trouble
A trade mark is a name or logo registered to one business for a kind of product. India’s trade mark office, IP India (ipindia.gov.in), has a free public search. If someone has registered your name for décor, toys, textiles or similar goods, choose another. Registering your own mark is a separate step with its own forms and costs; for that, and for anything you are unsure about, check with a trade mark lawyer.
5. Try it as your store link
On SitesPlaced the first part of your free address is the store link, set under Settings → Store details. It is saved in lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens. If another store has it, you will see “Slug is already taken”.
| Check | Where | If it is taken |
|---|---|---|
| Instagram handle | Search the name in the Instagram app | Add “studio”, “makes” or your city; avoid numbers and stacked underscores |
| Domain | The search box on any domain seller’s site | Try .in if .com is gone, or pick another name |
| Search the name with your craft and your city | If a maker selling the same craft shows up, move on | |
| Trade mark | The public search on the IP India website | Choose another name; ask a trade mark lawyer if unsure |
| Store link | Settings → Store details in your SitesPlaced store | You will see “Slug is already taken”; try a close variation |
What to avoid
- Place names that aren’t true. Protected crafts belong to the places that make them. Say “inspired by” in the listing instead.
- A festival in the name unless you only sell for that festival. Diyas and torans sell for a few weeks; a name built on the craft sells all year. Festive names are in Diwali business name ideas.
- Names close to a known décor brand or handmade marketplace. Changing one letter does not make it a new name.
- Numbers, hyphens and clever spellings. “Kraftz4U” has to be spelled out on every call.
- A different name on each app. If the Instagram handle, the WhatsApp Business name and the store name don’t match, buyers wonder if they have the right maker.
Put the name to work the same day
Once a name passes the checks, claim it everywhere at once: the Instagram handle, your WhatsApp Business name, and your store. On SitesPlaced a store is free to open, with 0% commission: unlimited products and orders, UPI and cards through your own Razorpay, PhonePe or Cashfree account, cash on delivery and WhatsApp checkout. The Home & Decor Store and Gifts & Lifestyle Store templates are among 16 free templates. Per-product personalisation on the free plan takes the name for a nameplate or the photo for a resin keepsake at checkout, so the details arrive with the order instead of in a DM. The store name appears in the header, on invoices and in order emails.
Your own domain, such as yourbrand.com, comes with the Starter plan at ₹199/month or ₹1,990 a year. In India you can also pay ₹199 once for 30 days, with no autopay. Starter removes the SitesPlaced badge and makes your store’s pages answer about 4× faster than on the free plan: about 75 ms instead of about 330 ms, measured on live paid stores on 28 September 2026. “Answer” means how soon the page starts arriving, before the photos load. The code FREE7 gives 7 days free on Starter or Growth when you set up autopay; cancel before the first charge and you pay nothing. Frequently asked questions
What is a good name for a handmade business?
One that names the craft or the material, is easy to type into Instagram from a swing tag, and leaves room for the next thing you learn to make. Two short words usually beat one long one. Check the Instagram handle, the domain and the trade mark register before you print tags.
Should I put handmade in my business name?
It is the word buyers search for, so it helps on Google. It is also the word every seller uses, so it does not set you apart. A name that says the technique (“Pour & Cure”, “Thrown by Hand”) says handmade more convincingly than the word itself. Use “handmade” in your Google title and bio, and let the name do something else.
Should my craft business name mention one craft if I make several?
Only if one craft is most of your sales. “The Coaster Co.” is perfect for resin coasters and awkward for crochet toys. If you make several things, pick a wider word such as studio, maker or object, and let each category on your store name the craft.
How do I check if a craft business name is already taken?
Search the handle on Instagram, search the domain on any domain seller’s site, search the name on Google with your craft and your city, run the public trade mark search on the IP India website, and try the name as your store link. If a maker in the same craft already uses it, choose another.
Can I put a place name like Jaipur or Channapatna in my craft business name?
Only if the work genuinely comes from there. Several Indian crafts have protected place-of-origin status, and a buyer who orders Jaipur blue pottery expects pottery made in Jaipur. If you are inspired by a style but make it elsewhere, describe it as “in the style of” in the listing and keep the place out of the name.
Do I need to register my handmade business name?
Registering the business and registering the name as a trade mark are separate steps, and what you need depends on how you set up. Confirm with a CA. What you can do today at no cost is make sure nobody else is using the name, then take the Instagram handle and your store link so they are yours.
How many craft business names should I shortlist?
Three to five. Run them all through the checks at once, because the first favourite often fails at Instagram or the trade mark search. Then say each survivor out loud as if confirming an order on a call, and write it on a swing tag the size of your thumb. Pick the one that passes both.
Can I change my store name later on SitesPlaced?
Yes. The store name is under Settings → Store details and can be changed at any time. The store link can be changed too, but the old link stops working and is not redirected, so every link in your bio and on printed tags would break. Settle on the name early.
