How it actually works

1. Design a product in Printify — t-shirt, hoodie, mug, poster — and pick the print provider.
2. Add the matching product to your store and link it to that Printify product and variant.
3. A customer buys. The order is paid and confirmed in your dashboard as normal.
4. The linked lines are sent to Printify with the delivery address.
5. Printify prints it, ships it, and emails your customer tracking. You never see the parcel.

What it costs and where the margin is

Printify charges you per item printed plus shipping. Your margin is the gap between that and your retail price — which means you control it.

Printify's optional Premium subscription lowers product costs. Competitor prices are from their own pricing pages, checked late August 2026. Plans change — confirm before you switch.

Compare that with platforms that print for you and take their cut inside the product price: convenient, and you never see what the margin split actually is.

The mistakes worth avoiding

• • Ordering nothing yourself. Buy one of each product before you sell it — print quality and sizing vary by provider and you need to know.
• • Ignoring shipping times. Print-on-demand is slower than stock. Say so on the product page and you avoid most complaints.
• • Pricing off the item cost alone. Add the processing fee and your own time before deciding a t-shirt at $18 makes sense.
• • Leaving auto-submit on from day one. Have the first few orders wait as drafts so you can check them.
• • Forgetting the token expires. Printify's personal access tokens last a year — if it lapses, orders stop reaching the printer while still looking fine in your dashboard.

Selling merch alongside everything else

Printed products sit in the same store as your own stock and your digital downloads. Only products you explicitly link go to Printify; the rest ship however you already ship them, including through Shippo.

That means one catalogue, one checkout and one customer list, whether an item is printed on demand, posted by you, or downloaded.
