What this WhatsApp link generator does
It builds a correctly formatted click-to-chat URL from three things: your country code, your WhatsApp number and an optional pre-filled message. The output is a standard wa.me link, which means it opens a chat with you on any phone or desktop without the buyer having to save your number first. The message is URL-encoded automatically so spaces, punctuation and emoji survive the trip. You also get a live chat preview, a copy button, a test button and a QR toggle if you want to scan it right away.
https://wa.me/<country code><number>?text=<URL-encoded message>How to use it
Enter your number
Country code first (91 for India), then the 10-digit mobile number. Spaces, dashes and a leading 0 are removed automatically.
Write the opening message
Keep it short and specific: who the buyer is messaging and what they want. Use a preset or write your own.
Copy and test
Copy the link, then tap Test to confirm it opens the right chat with the text filled in. Test on a phone where your number is not saved.
Place it
Instagram bio, Facebook page button, website 'Order on WhatsApp' button, email signature, catalogue PDF, or turn it into a QR for print.
Worked example
Worked example
Country code 91, number typed as 098765 43210, message “Hi! I saw your store and want to order.”
The generator drops the leading 0 and spaces, encodes the message, and returns:
https://wa.me/919876543210?text=Hi!%20I%20saw%20your%20store%20and%20want%20to%20order.
Tapping it on a phone opens WhatsApp with that sentence typed in the composer. Spaces became %20; the exclamation mark and full stop are safe as-is.
If the same seller wanted a link without a message, the generator returns plain https://wa.me/919876543210 — still valid, still opens the chat, just with an empty composer.
Where sellers put the link
- ✓Instagram bio — the only place on Instagram where a link is tappable. Pair it with a clear line such as 'Order on WhatsApp ↓'.
- ✓Story and reel captions can't carry a link, so use the 'link' sticker on stories, or say 'link in bio'.
- ✓A WhatsApp order button on your website or online store — the message should name the product so you don't have to ask 'which one?'.
- ✓Packaging inserts and visiting cards — convert the link into a QR with the WhatsApp QR code generator.
- ✓Google Business Profile, YouTube description, email signature.
One tip from sellers who get a lot of DMs: make a different link per source (one message for Instagram, one for packaging, one for a flyer). The opening sentence tells you where the customer came from without asking.
Link vs. a proper WhatsApp checkout
A wa.me link starts a conversation. It does not know which product the buyer was looking at, the size they picked or the price that day, so the first two messages are usually “which one?” and “how much?”. A store with WhatsApp checkout fixes that: the buyer picks the variant on the product page and the chat opens with the product, quantity, price and their address already in the message. On SitesPlaced that is free, next to Razorpay and COD.
Frequently asked questions
What is a wa.me link?
wa.me is WhatsApp's official short-link domain for click-to-chat. A link like https://wa.me/919876543210?text=Hi opens a chat with that number — in the WhatsApp app on a phone, or WhatsApp Web on a desktop — with the message already typed. The person only has to tap send. It works whether or not your number is saved in their contacts.
Do I need to add +91 or 0 before the number?
Use the country code (91 for India) followed by the 10-digit mobile number, with no plus sign, no leading zero and no spaces. The generator strips spaces and dashes and removes a leading 0 automatically, so 098765 43210 with country code 91 becomes wa.me/919876543210.
Does the link work with WhatsApp Business?
Yes. wa.me links work identically for personal WhatsApp, WhatsApp Business app and WhatsApp Business API numbers. If you use a Business account, the chat opens on your business profile with your catalogue and quick replies available.
Why doesn't the pre-filled message show up?
Usually the text wasn't URL-encoded — spaces, question marks and emoji must be escaped (a space becomes %20). This generator encodes the message for you. The other common cause is pasting the link into an Instagram caption, which is not clickable; put it in your bio or in a link-in-bio page instead.
Is there a limit on the message length?
WhatsApp does not publish a hard limit for the text parameter, but very long pre-filled messages make ugly links and may be truncated by some apps. Keep it to one or two short sentences — who you are and what you want — and let the customer add the detail.

A link gets the conversation started; a store finishes it. On a free SitesPlaced store every product has a WhatsApp checkout button that opens a chat with the product name, variant and price already in the message — no copy-pasting prices from reels into DMs.
