Lesson 3 of 6 4 min

Publish and share your link

One click to go live on your free address, then the five places the link should be by tonight — and why edits never change it.

Publishing on SitesPlaced is not a launch. It is one click, it is free, and you can do it again every time you fix a typo; the link stays the same. The real work in this lesson is deciding where that link goes.

Publish

In the editor header, click Publish. It saves everything, pushes it live, and opens a share window with your link, a copy button, and shortcuts for LinkedIn, Instagram and WhatsApp. Your site is at yourname.sitesplaced.site; the same site also answers at yourname.sitesplaced.com, which is the address search engines use. Share whichever you copied — both work. The clicks are in Publish & share your site.

The badge

Free sites carry a small Made using sitesplaced.com pill in the bottom corner. It is the only visible sign of the free plan, and the Starter plan removes it — see What's included. Do not let it stop you sharing. A live site with a badge beats a perfect site nobody can see.

Where the link goes today

  1. 1Instagram bio. The website field of your profile. The Instagram button in the share window copies the link for you, because Instagram does not accept links handed over from other apps — open Instagram, edit your profile, paste.
  2. 2WhatsApp status. The WhatsApp button opens a pre-written message with your link. Post it as a status with one photo and one line about what you do. Everyone who has your number sees it, and it costs nothing.
  3. 3Your WhatsApp Business profile and your Google Business listing, if you have them. Both have a website field that stays empty on most small businesses.
  4. 4A QR code for the counter, the parcel, the visiting card. A store built on SitesPlaced gets a downloadable QR code in its dashboard; for a website, any QR generator will turn your link into one. The free WhatsApp QR code generator makes the other useful kind — a code that opens a chat with you.
  5. 5Your email signature and your phone's auto-reply. Low effort, permanent.

Editing after you publish

Change anything, click Publish again, and the same link shows the new version. Anything you already shared keeps working. Live pages are cached for about a minute, so if you still see the old version, wait and refresh. The one thing that does change your link is changing the slug — the yourname part — under General Settings, so settle on it before you print anything. Your free address has the rules a slug must follow.

No unpublish for websites

Stores have an Unpublish button; websites do not. If you need a website gone, delete it from the Dashboard, or contact support and they will switch it to draft without deleting your work.

Write down

The three places you put the link today, and the date. Then decide whether you want your own domain on it — Your own domain — or go straight to Get found on Google if the free address is fine for now.
