Lesson 6 of 6 5 min

The Importer shortcut

Let SitesPlaced build the first draft from your Instagram, your old website or a PDF — free, preview first — and the checklist to run before you share it.

If you already have an Instagram page, a website somewhere else, or a résumé as a PDF, you do not have to start from a blank template. The Importer at sitesplaced.com/import reads what you have and builds the first draft — template, colours, text, photos — in well under a minute. It is free, you see the result before you sign up, and everything it makes is editable afterwards.

What it can read

  • An Instagram handle. Your bio, profile photo and recent posts. The profile must be public.
  • An existing website or hosted store. The look and the text, and — where it can read them — products, prices and categories.
  • A PDF or document. A catalogue or price list becomes a store; a résumé becomes a portfolio.
  • Also a Facebook page, a TikTok profile, a Google Business listing, a GitHub profile or a Linktree page.

How it goes

  1. 1Open sitesplaced.com/import, pick the source, and enter the handle or link, or upload the file. No account needed yet.
  2. 2Choose what to build — Online store, Portfolio website or Business website — and either pick a template or use Let AI pick.
  3. 3Wait for the preview. Read it the way a stranger would.
  4. 4Click Sign up & publish (or Publish my store if you are already signed in). The site is created in your account and goes live on its free address.

The full walk-through, including what to fix afterwards, is How to import your Instagram or existing store.

Live means live

An imported site is published the moment you click. That is fine — the address is new and nobody has it — but review it before you share the link. Imported text is a draft, not gospel.

The review checklist

  • Name, role, headline. The importer guesses from your bio. Make the headline say what you do and for whom, as in lesson two.
  • Prices. From Instagram, a price is read only when the caption states it plainly; anything unclear is created at ₹0 so it cannot be sold at the wrong price. Fix every ₹0 before sharing.
  • Things that are not products or work. Giveaways, reposts, memes. Delete them.
  • Photos. An item whose photos could not be fetched is skipped rather than published blank, so the count may be lower than your source. Add what is missing.
  • Your WhatsApp number and your slug. Check both before the link goes anywhere; changing the slug later breaks every link you have shared.
  • A résumé import. Check the dates and the role line, and remove anything you would not want a stranger to see — a home address, a personal number.
  • The about text. It is a reasonable draft. Rewrite it in the first person.

Good to know

  • A preview expires after about an hour. If you see Preview Expired, run it again.
  • Running the Importer again makes a second site; it does not update the first. A free account holds five, so delete the ones you do not want from the Dashboard.
  • To add products to a store you already built, use Products → Import inside that store instead.
  • A store's template is fixed once it is created. A website's sections, colours and fonts stay editable on any template.

Next

That is the course. If the site is for a business that sells products, Open your online store adds a cart, checkout and orders — a website and a store live side by side under one account. If you are already taking orders, Get your first 100 orders is where the marketing starts.
