Lesson 2 of 6 5 min

Edit sections and write your copy

Find your way around the editor, then write the four things every site needs: a headline, an about, services with prices, and a one-tap contact.

The editor is where the template stops being a template. This lesson is half about the tool and half about the words, because the words are what most sites get wrong. A beautiful template with sample text and a stock photo of a handshake convinces nobody.

Find your way around the editor

Open the site on a laptop; on a phone you will only see a Desktop Only notice. The left panel lists General Settings (your site name and the yourname part of your link), Custom Domain, Tracking & Code, Design System, Pages, and then your sections. Click a section to edit its text and images, and use the up and down arrows to reorder. Design System is where fonts and colours live — change them once there and the whole site follows.

There is no hidden draft. Edits autosave a couple of seconds after you stop typing, and what is saved is what a visitor sees within a minute or two. Save saves now; Publish saves everything and hands you the share window. Build your first site or store covers the editor; Publishing and sharing explains exactly when an edit reaches the live site.

The order to edit in

Top to bottom, the way a visitor reads: headline, about, services, contact. Delete the sections you do not need. A six-section site that is all true beats a twelve-section one padded with filler.

The headline: what you do, for whom

Not Welcome to my website. One line a stranger can act on: Custom wedding cakes in Pune, delivered the same day. Brand identity for small businesses — Bengaluru and remote. Hand-made silver jewellery from a Jaipur workshop. Put your city in it; most of your first customers are local.

About, in the first person

Three or four sentences as I or we, not the company: what you do, how long, why, and where. I have baked for eleven years, the last six from my own kitchen in Kothrud. Every cake is made to order. People buy from people. The about section is where they decide whether they like you.

Services with a price

One short line per service and a number. Portrait session — ₹4,000. Logo and brand kit — from ₹15,000. Birthday cake, 1 kg — from ₹900. If the price depends on the job, write from ₹. A page with no prices makes people assume it is expensive and move on.

Contact: make it one tap

Your WhatsApp number as a tap-to-chat link, your city or area, your hours, and an email if you actually check it. The free WhatsApp link generator makes a link that opens a chat with you, with the first message already typed.

Photos

  • Consistent. Same light, same background, same crop. Five photos taken on a plain wall by a window look like one business; five from different phones and years look like five.
  • Your own face, if the site is about you. A freelancer or creator sells trust, and a real photo of you builds it faster than any paragraph. Never a stock photo.
  • Small files. The editor accepts images under 2MB; compress before uploading so the page loads fast on mobile data.

Replace every placeholder

Read the whole site once, top to bottom, before you share it. A template's sample phone number or Your Name Here left on a live page is exactly what a customer notices and you do not.

Write down

Headline: ______. Three services with prices: ______ / ______ / ______. Type them in, click Save, and go to Publish and share.
