Lesson 2 of 7 6 min

Set up your catalog, then add products

Decide once how products are priced and stocked, then add products with photos that sell and sizes that work.

Your store has one setup screen that shapes every product you will ever add: Settings → Catalog & fields. It decides whether a product has one price or a different price per size, whether you track stock and how, and what the Add Product form asks you. Set it once, before the first product.

The two choices that matter

  • Pricing. One price per product, or Different price per option so a Large can cost more than a Small. If every size costs the same, keep it simple.
  • Stock tracking. One stock count per product, Stock per option (a separate count for each size or colour, so a sold-out Medium shows sold out while Large still sells), or Don't track stock (everything always available — fine for made-to-order).

If your products come in sizes, colours or weights, add those as options here too, so every new product offers them. The full guide is Set up your catalog, and How to sell a product in sizes & colours explains why the product form shows one price box until you do this.

Categories before products

Create your categories first — Earrings, Necklaces, Gift sets — so each product can be filed as you add it. Categories are how customers filter, and how coupons and offers can target one group later. See Categories & collections. Five to eight categories is plenty to start; a category with one product looks empty.

Now add products

Go to Products → + Add Product. The only required field is the name, but a product that sells has all of these:

  • A name a customer would search. Oxidised silver jhumka, 4 cm, not Design 12.
  • A price, and an Original price if it is on sale — the live price shows with the original struck through.
  • Photos. Several, the first one is the cover on every card. Same background and light for all products — the consistency you decided in the first course. Up to 5 MB each.
  • A description that answers the questions people DM you. Material, size, weight, what is in the box, how to care for it, how many days delivery takes. Every question you answer here is a DM you do not get.
  • Categories, stock and an item code if you use one. Leave stock blank for unlimited.

Save & add another keeps you on a fresh form for the next product. Everything about the form, including options, duplicates and quick edits, is in Add & manage products.

Ten good products beat forty rushed ones

Launch with the products you have real stock of and real photos for. Add the rest week by week — a new product is also a reason to post a story.

Write down

Pricing model: ______. Stock model: ______. Categories: ______. Then add your first ten products before the next lesson.
