# Connect SitesPlaced to ChatGPT or Claude (MCP)

> The SitesPlaced MCP server is live — add it as a connector and build, edit and publish your website or store by chatting with your AI assistant.

Guide: https://sitesplaced.com/help/apps-and-integrations/connect-chatgpt-claude-mcp · Section: Apps & Integrations · Last reviewed: 2026-09-20

To connect SitesPlaced to ChatGPT or Claude, add `https://sitesplaced.com/api/mcp` as a **custom connector** in your assistant's settings, sign in with your normal SitesPlaced login when it asks, and approve access. That is the whole setup — there is no API key to copy and nothing to install. SitesPlaced speaks **MCP** (Model Context Protocol), the open standard AI assistants use to work with other apps, so once connected your assistant can **create, edit and publish your SitesPlaced websites and online stores for you**, right from the chat.

> **The connector URL:** Every client below uses the same address: `https://sitesplaced.com/api/mcp`. Signing in is OAuth — you approve access with your normal SitesPlaced login. **No API keys to copy**, and you can revoke access anytime. Type it exactly as shown: no `www.`, no trailing slash.

## What your assistant can do

- **Build a whole site from a brief** — "make me a portfolio for a freelance photographer" becomes a real, live site.
- **Create an online store with products** — name, copy, storefront template and the first products in one go. Your assistant sees every store template with a line on what kind of shop it is for, so it can pick the right one from what you sell, or use the one you name. New stores publish automatically on the free plan.
- **Edit what's already there** — rewrite your hero, update your about section, change your theme or colour preset.
- **Manage your catalog** — add products with variants (size, colour, per-variant price, stock and SKU), update prices and stock, attach the file for a digital download, and **hide a product without deleting it**. Hiding is the safe default: the product leaves your store but keeps its photos, reviews and order history, and can be brought back.
- **Change store settings** — every setting in your dashboard's Settings tab that does not involve a password or key: announcement bar, coupons, buy-X-get-Y offers, shipping and COD charges, UPI and bank details, checkout fields, pausing orders, WhatsApp ordering, browse pages, header icons, navigation, footer and SEO text.
- **Write your store blog** — draft a post, edit one, publish or unpublish it. Posts are saved as a **draft** unless you say publish, so you can read them first. See [Add a blog to your store](https://sitesplaced.com/help/md/online-stores/store-blog.md).
- **Handle your reviews** — list the ones waiting for approval, approve or reject them, and draft a public reply for you to check. Your assistant never sees a reviewer's email or order details. See [Collect product reviews](https://sitesplaced.com/help/md/online-stores/product-reviews.md).
- **Answer your how-to questions from this Help Center** — ask "how do I charge extra for cash on delivery?" and your assistant searches these guides and answers from the right one, instead of guessing at menu names.
- **Publish or unpublish** — with the same plan rules as the dashboard.
- **Check your plan and limits** — how many sites you can still create, and whether a request would need an upgrade.

## Before you start

- You need a SitesPlaced account — the free plan is enough. Create one at [sitesplaced.com](https://sitesplaced.com/start) if you haven't.
- Know which account owns the sites you want to edit. The connector only ever sees sites belonging to the account you sign in with.
- In ChatGPT, custom connectors live behind **Developer mode**. In Claude, they are under **Connectors**. If you cannot find either option, your ChatGPT or Claude plan or workspace may not allow custom connectors yet — that is on their side, not ours.

## Connect from ChatGPT

1. Open ChatGPT **Settings → Apps & Connectors**.
2. Turn on **Developer mode** (needed for custom connectors).
3. Choose **Create connector** and paste `https://sitesplaced.com/api/mcp`.
4. ChatGPT opens a SitesPlaced sign-in — log in and **approve access**.
5. Done. Start a chat and say something like *"List my SitesPlaced sites"* to check it's working.

## Connect from Claude (claude.ai)

1. Open Claude **Settings → Connectors**.
2. Choose **Add custom connector** and paste `https://sitesplaced.com/api/mcp`.
3. Claude opens a SitesPlaced sign-in — log in and **approve access**.
4. In any chat, enable the SitesPlaced connector and start building.

## Connect from Claude Code or Cursor

- **Claude Code** — run `claude mcp add --transport http sitesplaced https://sitesplaced.com/api/mcp`, then `/mcp` to sign in.
- **Cursor** — add `{ "mcpServers": { "sitesplaced": { "url": "https://sitesplaced.com/api/mcp" } } }` to `.cursor/mcp.json`.
- **Any other MCP client** — the server uses the Streamable HTTP transport with OAuth sign-in. Paste the same URL wherever the client asks for a remote MCP server; the full tool list is on [sitesplaced.com/developers/mcp](https://sitesplaced.com/developers/mcp).

## Your first conversation

1. Say **"List my SitesPlaced sites"**. Your assistant calls `list_my_sites` and shows each site with its type (website, store or gym), publish status and URL. If the list is empty or wrong, you signed in with a different account — see troubleshooting below.
2. Name the site and the change: *"On my bakery store, rewrite the hero to sound warmer and mention same-day delivery in Pune."* The assistant reads the current sections first, then saves the edit.
3. Ask to see it: the assistant returns the live or preview URL. Open it on your phone and check.
4. When it looks right, say **"Publish it"**. Free-plan sites publish with the SitesPlaced badge; if a paid feature is needed, you get a [pricing](https://sitesplaced.com/pricing) link instead.

> **Be specific and you get better sites:** Give your brand name, what you sell, who buys it, the tone you want, and products with prices in ₹. "A store for my handmade jute bags, ₹450–₹1,200, warm and earthy, for working women in Bengaluru" produces something you can publish; "make me a store" produces a placeholder.

## Things to try

- "Build me a portfolio website for a freelance photographer and publish it."
- "Create an online store for my bakery with these 5 products."
- "Rewrite my site's hero section to sound more premium."
- "Add a 20% off sale price to every product in my store."
- "Set free shipping above ₹999 and a ₹60 shipping charge below that."
- "Turn on the Add button on product cards and show 'Ships in 24 hours' under the buy button."
- "Hide everything in my Diwali category until next year."
- "I'm away for a week from Friday. Pause orders and tell shoppers we're back on the 28th."
- "Write a blog post on how to care for a silk saree and save it as a draft."
- "Draft replies to my unanswered reviews and show me before you post anything."
- "How do I set up Shop by brand pages?"
- "Is the subdomain `ritu-ceramics` free? If yes, use it for my new store."

## AI Co-founder tools, and why they cost no credits

If you are on the **AI Co-founder** plan, the same connection also exposes your store's co-founder work to your assistant. Six extra tools appear once you connect, and five of them spend **no AI credits at all**.

The reason is simple. AI credits pay for **our** model calls. When ChatGPT or Claude reads your numbers and decides what to do, the thinking happens on the subscription you already pay for, so there is no model call of ours to bill. Only image generation still costs credits, because it really does run an image model on our key.

- **Get store insights** — orders over the last 30 days, best sellers by units and revenue, and, where your plan includes analytics, visitors, conversion rate and most-viewed products. Free.
- **Get store and product SEO** — your store's SEO title and description, and every product's name, description and current meta description. Free.
- **Apply SEO copy** — saves the meta descriptions your assistant wrote, after you have read them. Free.
- **Schedule a promotion** — sets a coupon and an announcement bar with a start and an end. Free.
- **Get AI credit balance and prices** — your balance and what each action costs, so your assistant can tell you the price before spending anything. Free.
- **Generate a product or ad image** — the only one that spends credits, at the same per-image price as the dashboard. Your assistant is told the cost before it runs.

> **Sending broadcasts is deliberately not available here:** Broadcasts and cart reminders go to real customers, and a tool call has no confirmation step a person actually sees. Those stay in the dashboard, where you read the message and press send yourself. See [Automations](https://sitesplaced.com/help/md/ai-cofounder/automations.md).

A normal session looks like this: ask your assistant to read the store's numbers, decide what to push this week, rewrite the meta descriptions on the products that need it, save them, and schedule a weekend coupon. All of that is free. Generating one product photo for the promotion is the only line on the bill.

Your assistant is only as good as the numbers it reads, and it can still be wrong. Read what it wrote before you save it, exactly as you would a proposal in the dashboard. Prices and the full tool list are in [AI credits](https://sitesplaced.com/help/md/ai-cofounder/ai-credits.md) and on [/developers/mcp](https://sitesplaced.com/developers/mcp).

## How edits, images and publishing work

- **Same rules as the dashboard.** Plan limits (number of sites, storage) and publish gating are enforced on our side. Your assistant cannot buy a plan for you — when something needs an upgrade it is handed a link to [/pricing](https://sitesplaced.com/pricing), and it should share that with you.
- **Images need a public link.** Product and hero images are copied into your site's own storage from a public `https` URL (up to 8 MB each). Pictures generated *inside* the chat have no fetchable URL, so upload those through the dashboard — see [Add products](https://sitesplaced.com/help/md/online-stores/add-products.md).
- **Whole-page edits replace the page.** When your assistant saves a full set of sections, any section it leaves out is removed. Ask it to *"fetch the current sections first"* before big rewrites, and review the result before publishing.
- **Store settings merge.** Changing one setting, like the announcement bar, leaves every other setting as it was.
- **New stores go live immediately** on the free plan. Say *"keep it unpublished"* if you want to review first, and the assistant can unpublish it.

## Safety & what it can't touch

- The connector only sees and edits **sites owned by the account you sign in with**.
- **Billing, plan changes, custom domains, tracking scripts and individual customer records are not accessible** through MCP. Custom head and body code is never read or written — if your assistant sends it, it is ignored. On the AI Co-founder plan the insights tool reports **totals** — order counts, sales, best sellers, visitors — and never a customer's name, phone, email or address.
- Publishing follows the same plan rules as the dashboard — if an upgrade is needed, your assistant is given a pricing link instead.
- **Some settings need a paid plan to show on your live store** — sales boosters, the WhatsApp chat bubble, buy-X-get-Y offers and reviews are part of Growth. If your assistant switches one on and your plan does not include it, the setting is saved and your assistant is told, in so many words, that shoppers will not see it yet. It comes on by itself when you upgrade.
- **Blog posts are plain formatted text.** Headings, lists, bold, italics and links work. Any HTML or script an assistant sends is shown as text and never runs on your store. Pictures inside a post are added in the dashboard editor.
- **Keys and passwords never go through chat.** Payment gateways, couriers, the WhatsApp Business API, Meta Pixel and Judge.me are connected in your dashboard under **Settings → Integrations**. If an assistant asks you to paste a key or secret, do not.
- Changing your store's **theme** through your assistant rebuilds your home page layout from the new theme. Your assistant is told to do this only when you have asked for it and agreed.
- Destructive actions need your say-so: deleting a site is refused unless your assistant passes an explicit confirmation flag after you agree, and the assistant is instructed to confirm with you before deleting a product. Deleting a site removes its sections, products and orders permanently.
- There are per-account speed limits so a runaway chat cannot flood your account: roughly 120 reads and 40 edits a minute, and 15 new sites or stores an hour.

## Troubleshooting

- **ChatGPT says "showing an error" when adding the connector.** Delete the connector and create it again — clients cache the setup from the first attempt. Check the URL is exactly `https://sitesplaced.com/api/mcp` with no `www.`.
- **"Unauthorized" or an empty site list.** You approved access with a different SitesPlaced login than the one that owns the sites. Remove the connector, add it again, and sign in with the right account. Not sure which? See [Account & sign-in](https://sitesplaced.com/help/md/account-and-support/account-and-sign-in.md).
- **"Rate limit reached."** Wait a minute and ask again; for site creation, wait an hour.
- **"This needs a plan upgrade."** Open the pricing link, upgrade on the web, then repeat the request in the same chat.
- **The assistant can't see my orders.** That is by design. Use the dashboard or the [mobile app](https://sitesplaced.com/help/md/apps-and-integrations/mobile-app.md) for orders and customers.
- **Want to disconnect?** Remove the connector from ChatGPT or Claude settings and it can no longer act on your account. If you would also like us to revoke the connection on our side, [contact support](https://sitesplaced.com/contact).

> **Tip:** Want the full technical details — every tool, the OAuth flow, and setup for other MCP clients? See the developer docs at [sitesplaced.com/developers/mcp](https://sitesplaced.com/developers/mcp).

Something not connecting? [Contact support](https://sitesplaced.com/contact) and tell us which client you're using (ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code or Cursor) — we'll get you sorted.

---

**Q: Does this work on the free plan?**

Yes. Connecting is free and every read and edit tool works on the free plan. Your assistant authors the site content itself, so you do not need SitesPlaced's AI features. Publishing follows the usual rules — free with the SitesPlaced badge.

**Q: Can my assistant see my customers or orders?**

No. Orders, customer details, billing, custom domains and tracking code are deliberately kept out of the connector. It can only create and edit the content and settings of sites you own.

**Q: Will it delete things without asking?**

Deleting a site is blocked until your assistant confirms you agreed (a required confirmation flag), and it is told to check with you before deleting a product; a site delete is permanent. Full-page section saves can remove sections the assistant leaves out, so ask it to fetch the current sections before a big rewrite.

**Q: Which assistants are supported?**

ChatGPT (Developer mode custom connector), Claude on claude.ai (custom connector), Claude Code and Cursor are documented here. Any MCP client that supports remote servers over Streamable HTTP with OAuth sign-in should work with the same URL.

**Q: How do I stop it?**

Remove the connector in your assistant's settings. If you want the connection revoked on the SitesPlaced side as well, contact support and we will do it.
